I'm having a beach wedding in August... ITS GOING TO BE HOT! My reception is inside but for the Beach Ceremony I will have personalized ice cold water and fans. Is there anything else I can do to make my guest feel more comfortable during my 30 minute ceremony?

I'm sure it'll look great in photos when the ambulance shows up for grandma, all of your guests are pale and dizzy and everyone has crazy sweat stains before the reception even begins!

As long as that's exactly how you want YOUR day to look!

@Lindsey - things can be about the bride and groom without completely sacrificing guest comfort. If you want it to be only about you and your FS, with no consideration for others in attendance, then it should just be you and your FS.

I promise, it will still be YOUR day if you put up a tent to provide shade or move the ceremony inside but go outside for pictures.

I never said it would be my choice to have an outdoor wedding in August. Just saying it's her day. I do feel she should put up a tent.

I think it's absolutely disgusting the way people are treated on this site. Absolutely revolting.

It's one of the only days you can make it about yourself and FH so why not make the day around what your wishes are?!

@Lindsey - I get wanting to really make it 100% your day. But, the way I see it, I'm asking these people to come. I have no local family or friends, so I am asking my family and friends to drive a minimum of 3 hours to come spend this day with me.

If that means I have to do something slightly different to accommodate them, then that's important to me. I would rather have the people I love with me on my wedding day than have an empty room because everyone decided they would be too uncomfortable and stayed home.

    ETA: just some grammar/spelling adjustments

@lindsey, at the end of the day it's going to be about you regardless. The common gist that is being reiterated, however, is that your guests, people who love you, are coming because they do, in fact love you. They are taking into consideration, with their love for you, your feelings of wanting then present at your special day. That said, you, taking their feelings and health into consideration, should accommodate as much as you can to avoid any uncomfortable, all be it dangerous circumstances during your wedding.

If I was forced to go, I'd wear my damn bathing suit so I could jump in the water after. Lol

I hope someone has the same idea I do and I hope that someone is this guy.....

@Lindsey, it's absolutely a revolting concept that the vision of a "beautiful perfect HEAT STROKE wedding" trumps guests' comfort and safety.

I'm not sure on what you can do (I haven't read the comments) but I wouldn't be happy as a guest because I swear easily and I would just feel gross during the reception along with all my makeup being melted off of my face. Temperature was the main reason my husband and I decided to get married in December in Cali. We got married on the water and the temp was like 72.... just perfect

I've been to the beach several times on both coasts, the gulf and the caribbean. I don't remember seeing anyone pass out after having been outside for 30 minutes. I've also been to my children's games (outside in the sun and with clothes on) and don't remember seeing anyone pass out. I think the heatstroke, passing out, dying comments are exaggerations.

If you're going to do it outside on the beach, consider doing it later once it cools down (5PM is usually the hottest time of day). Also, consider having ice cold water and possibly ice pops to cool your guests down.

Also, talk to your venue coordinator or wedding planner. They have, more than likely, planned several weddings in the area and can provide great feedback on your plans.

I schedule my beach ceremonies for 30-45 minutes before sunset. It is cooler then and there usually is a breeze.

However, I keep my ceremonies to no more than 15 minutes (usually closer to 10).

You'll need a back-up plan in case of a thunderstorm (typical in August).

@heatherh We are probably close to the same area and yes it's miserable outside already! Oh and not to mention all of the fires lately! We just had a 20 acre fire yesterday.

I've just been told than on my wedding day I'm not allowed to hunt children for sport, my shit will continue to stink and other people will persist in existing! Doesn't the universe know it's MY SPECIAL DAY???

Why do some brides take the knowledge that their friends and family will not complain to their faces as license to treat them like crap? Why not take this one day when you can do whatever you want and use it to treat your loved ones like gold?

I think sometimes the message on here about "proper hosting" comes off more like "the wedding day is not about you!" It of course, is about you and your spouse. The people that are coming to this wedding are there to celebrate your marriage - they would not be showing up otherwise. I think you need to be a proper host by providing food, alcohol, entertainment, etc....but don't let anyone make you feel like you can't enjoy your day because you strictly catering to everyone elses needs.

With regards to beach wedding, what time is it at? I think people expect a beach wedding to be warm. I've been to them and they are usually later, like 5pm, and the temperature is totally bearable.

Jesikah - Was it in Florida in August? If not, it's not a good comparison on what this wedding will feel like. Florida averages over 90 degrees and their humidity can be close to 100 in August.

I think if I saw that it was in august in Florida I would know it would be hot. And if I seriously couldn't handle it for 30 minutes I wouldn't go. Or when I got uncomfortable seek shelter. Come on. To address the actual question asked and not make judgments. I like the fans, and sunscreen ideas!
