"Honeymoon jar"

Hello, I wanted to get some thoughts on the whole honeymoon jar idea at a wedding. A lot of ppl say it's tacky or just do a money dance. What about a "jar" but with a sign that says " Bless us with Happiness & Fortune" - $1 for each year of Wedded Bliss! Or maybe without the last part? Thoughts?? ...

Noooooooooo! Don't do any of the above. Create a small registry and your guests will get the message that you prefer cash as a gift. DO NOT ask for money!

I know that this gets confusing.

You open up Pinterest and see 1,000 "cute" ideas for a honeymoney fund and a jar. Then you come on here and are told it's tacky.

Just think of this way. You're already expected to bring a gift, likely in the form of cash or check to the wedding. Then you come in, drop off the card, and oh hey. A jar that says, "We know you probably gave us money. How about a little more?" If that's the message you want to send, well that's on you. But for me, that screamed tacky to me. So I'm not doing it.

Just one more person telling you no. I love that people told you that a honeymoon jar is tacky, but a dollar dance isn't.

Don't. People will give you cash if they want to. In a card...

I went to a wedding that put honeymoon jars on the bars instead of tip jars for the bartenders. My DH and several other friends were actually pretty offended, as most were/had tended in the past. They gave the bartenders the cash directly and refused to put any money in the honeymoon jar.

Our honeyfund jar is on our mantle where we put our extra cash at the end of the week. BOOM! Extra cash for the wedding!

PS: our friends add to it of their own free will, more to just get rid of the change in their pockets when they come over. We have NEVER asked them to add to it.

You will already get cash gifts. in cards. use that money for your honeymoon, if you want to. and send a thank you card.

wedding guests should not have to open their wallets. they shouldnt even have to bring their wallets. no jars, no poems, no signs. it aint cute.

That's a negative. If you can't afford a honeymoon at this point, save until you can. That's what we are doing.

Time for my "Tacky as Hell" poem. It's awful too.

It's never nice to ask for money

No matter how you do it.

Wishing Well, honey fund, it doesn't matter,

It's a tacky way to make your wallet fatter.

I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again. If you need to write a bad poem to express something in a nicer way you shouldn't say it at all.

And guess what.. most people WILL give you money. In a lovely card, with their well wishes. They will drop it in a box at your wedding. There is money for your honeymoon. You want to put ANOTHER jar/box right beside it asking for MORE money?

Here is a "cute" sign suggestion:

~In case you're not sure if you already gave us enough.... well... you didn't! Insert extra here.~

Nope. All kinds of nope. For real though, O&S has a legitimate suggestion.

Im sorry, but I agree with everyone saying that it is tacky. My wedding planner tried to have me convinced that a dollar dance is awesome, and amazing and so popular right now, but I just thought it was another way for me to be a greedy bride, and ask for more money from my guests just because I am getting married. Please, don't do it!
