Help me choose my honeymoon destination!

Sydney, on July 2, 2019 at 1:07 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 13

Hi all,

My FH and I are getting married on June 22, 2020, and are planning on going on a honeymoon for about a week the next day (June 23). We want to go somewhere in the world where we can relax on a beach and enjoy white sand and blue water. We were thinking about going to Bora Bora, but it's just so darn expensive!

Some other options I was thinking about include Dubrovnik (Croatia), Venice (Italy) even though it's not beachy, Kauai (Hawaii), Panama, Turks & Caicos, or Greece.

Have any of you guys been to these places? What were your thoughts?

Thanks!!

My FH and I are going to Kauai! It is said to be the least touristy of all the islands, so that was a huge plus for me. For some that may be a negative. There are plenty of hotels, we booked a Marriott on Kalapaki Beach and it has awesome reviews and looks absolutely stunning. Plenty of activities that we have already been researching and tons of places to eat, cheap or expensive. My flights, hotel, and car for the both of us was $4300 after tax. I booked through American Airlines and it was significantly cheaper than Marriott website or Costco!

    Hey!
That sounds great. We were hoping to spend less than $5000 on everything, and we really want to go somewhere that isn’t going to be full of tourists and take the romance out of the destination.
    Thanks!

I’ve been to Kauai and Big Island. Kauai is by far more romantic. We found a beach to ourselves there and felt like we were in a Corona commercial. Lol. Also the Napali Coast is a must see but beware of those “Romantic Sunset Dinner Cruises”. The one we went to was missing the romantic part and dinner was on paper plates. Kauai is one of the older islands. It’s very pretty and probably more affordable. Check out Airbnb or some condos for rent.

Venice is much more beautiful in person than the pictures. But they’ve been having more flooding there so definitely check. Also we had a hard time finding affordable lodging during the summer. Airbnb for a room was over $100/day!

I’ve been to Avignon in South of France and that is quite a romantic destination as well!

I think Greece would be lovely but I would do some research into where specifically you’d want to go to. Santorini and some other islands are crazy touristy in the summer so it could ruin the mood a bit lol. I think the Caribbean could be nice, somewhere like Turks and Caicos or St Lucia! Or maybe a cruise in the Med so you can stop in France and coastal Italy? My cousin did that for hers and it was relatively affordable for everything you got to see.

Also, consider other awesome destinations, such as Aruba, they have inclusive resorts, but also you could really stay anywhere there, it’s safe and has beautiful beaches!

I know it wasn't a place that you mentioned above, but my husband and I just returned from our honeymoon in Cancun. We stayed at an all inclusive resort (Live Aqua). Our trip was half of your budget and it was absolutely amazing. It's a quiet adult only resort and it's so beautiful. The resort is like a spa. All meals and drinks are included in the cost ( 24 hour room service and mini bar too). The food was not typical resort food and you have 8 options to choose from. We loved every restaurant. We came back to a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries with rose petals on the bed one night (they did know it was our honeymoon). They have beds on the beach you can just lay there and relax all day and the bring you drinks whenever you need. Needless to say we will be going back. It's definitely something to look into.

Kauai is my favorite place on earth. If you love to hike and see views like you will never see anywhere else, than definitely do it! I love the Na Pali coast so much, it is a beautiful backdrop at the North Shore beaches. Definitely use Discounthawaiicarrental.com to book a car rental (go with a Jeep!) and check back for updated rates every so often because they do go down and you can just cancel and re-book for the cheaper rate! We spent about $4,500 after all was said and done include all flights (RT flights to Maui and interisland flights to Kauai, excursions, food, lodging, gas, souvenirs, etc. I definitely recommend the doors off Mauna Loa helicopter tour as well, it was a major highlight of our trip!

Barbados and Aruba are both amazing islands! I was Recently in St Croix for work and it was beautiful plus since it’s a US territory your phones work and no exchange rate on currency. We were in St Kitts for work as well and it wasn’t as great, lots of seaweed on the beach (Atlantic side) and you would need to convert currency as they use Caribbean currency.

I've been to Venice, and it was absolutely amazing! Very romantic to get lost through the streets and explore as you eat gelato lol. Oh and the gondolas! The view of the city from St. Mark's belltower was my favorite. It's definitely not tropical beachy, but there are beaches on some of the islands. My friend and I went on an island hopping tour and saw a Murano glass blowing demonstration and Burano is famous for its colorful houses! However, I'd recommend Venice as a honeymoon spot only if you really want to walk a lot and explore with your future husband vs. relax. It will also be really busy if you go during the summer.
