Heels on the wedding day????

Amanda, on September 12, 2011 at 4:08 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

Ok so here is the thing I am only 5 feet tall, my MOH and bridesmaid are both over 5'5 and I don't want to be all short, is it ok to ask them to not wear heels? and should I wear them(keep in mind I never do I don't want my feet to start hurting in the ceremony)?

I'm not wearing heels...don't care for them. But it's a personal choice, some ladies love them! I'm in the market for some cute flats or slippers. I'm all about comfort!

I'm wearing flats...not b/c I don't like heels (b/c honestly I LOVE them) but b/c I want to be noticeable shorter than FH and when I wear heels it gets too close b/c he is like 4-5 inches taller than me. My BM's range from 4'11"-5'6" and I'm sure some, if not most/all of them will wear heels and it doesn't bother me (I'm only 5'2"). I think you can do whatever you want...it's YOUR day Smiley smile

Hmmm that's another testy topic ... I mean you know your girls better than we do ... will they get super pissed if they can't wear heels on your wedding day? I know if I had asked any of my girls to not wear heels they would of been super pissed at me ... if not then I say sure ask them to wear flats ....

Hmmmmm I wasn't going to wear heels, hate them but my dress is a touch long so thinking on wearing instead of getting alterations! Are your bridesmaids wearing long or short dresses. If long I would say yes ask them to wear flats!

If you plan on wearing heels, you better start wearing them more! Picking your wedding day to suddenly wear heels is probably not the best idea. Whatever you do, you have to make an "all or nothing" kind of decision when it comes to heels. Your dress will be hemmed to the height of your shoes, so it's not like you can switch halfway through the night (unless you don't care that you dress will drag on the floor).

In my opinion, if you don't wear heels often, I'd stick with flats. You're going to be standing/dancing/walking around for most of the night. Whenever my feet hurt, I get in a horrible mood so I'm going to attempt to do what is most comfortable.

Are they wearing long dresses? If so, are you prepared to pay for the alterations to their dress?

I have 4 girls who will be 5'9" tall that day because they are wearing heels and/or flats that bring them up to 5'9" so they don't have to hem their dress.

Honestly, you are short. You will look short no matter if they are 5'5" or 5'9". Most likely everyone loves that you are short and won't care that you look short next to the girls.

My MOH wanted to do that Pumpkins sunshine, have all the girls be the same height, but to get to 5'9" some of my girls would have to wear stripper platform heels hehe. I'm going for flats that day for 2 reasons 1) I'm already tall at 5'10 and was told I'd need to order the dress with extra length if I was going to wear heels ($200, no thanks) and 2) FH is 5'11" on a good day and I want to be shorter than him in pics.

I love, love, love heels but definetly wear them, as in the wedding day shoes, a lot before the wedding. If you aren't used to them you are going to be readjusting and balancing yourself through the entire ceremony and the first dance could be really awkward since by then your feet will be getting pretty sore.

Also, don't worry about your girls being taller than you, embrace your petiteness! You will clearly stand out in all the pics Smiley winking.

I am also 5 feet even! I am wearing 4 inch heels on my wedding day, but am planning on buying some wedges to change into at the reception. My bridesmaids range from 5'3" to 5' 10". I am encouraging them to wear whatever height shoes they want. If my 5'10" BM wants to wear 4 inch heels, more power to her!!

As Pumpkin said, you are who you are. If you don't want to wear heels, don't! But you are still going to look shorter even if they wear flats, so you might as well choose something else to be picky about.

Comfy heeled flip flops may be the answer. They will give you a couple inches anyway!

Let me tell you, my mother was 5'7, 5'9 on her wedding day with heels on. She had 2 BMs each over 6ft tall in bare feet, and they were both wearing heels that day. Now, it was the 70's and for some yet undiscovered reason she wanted everyone to wear these turbinesque headpieces, which combined with the heels made the BMs like 6'8 each. Did I mention they were also wearing white? My mother still managed to far out shine them all. So... my advice is your shoes won't make a bit of difference if you're in love, you're confident, and you smile. If you allow yourself to be the most beautiful person you can be on your day it won't matter if everyone around you is on stilts because no one will be able to take their eyes off you... not even 45 years later when they look at your wedding pictures. -miss you mom-

I'm 5'0, FH is 6'6 and my bridesmaids were between 5'4-5'7. I wore 4" heels that had a platform,my girls had on heels as well. I wore heels b/c that's what I'm comfortable in. But I also had sparkly flats for the receptionSmiley smile
