He deserves more..a ring related vent.

SnowAngel, on March 6, 2012 at 10:09 AM Posted in Planning 0 29

I have a very tight budget for FH's wedding ring. I just cannot afford something as wonderful as he has given me. Right now, I have to keep it under $800. I want him to have something as amazing and wonderful as he has given me. He deserves it. He showed me one he liked and I thought I'd be able to save for it. I was at a good click and then an unexpected car repair destroyed that. What I'd like to give him costs about twice what I can afford. So I've been looking for less expensive in white gold with diamonds to at least give him some of what he likes until I can get him a better ring for our year anniversary. But I feel bad. He doesn't want to see or know about the ring until the day of the wedding. I'd hate to see his face show disappointment at the ring I give him. He deserves more Smiley sad

What does your husband do for a living?

My husband is blue collar so I got him a Triton ring. It was much less expensive. He loves it, but it is already a little dinged up and he has lost (and thankfully recovered) it twice. I love my husband too, but there was no point in giving him a ring that cost $800 in gold that would be destroyed. The titanium ones look really nice and they are less expensive.

I personally have never seen a man with diamonds in his wedding band. I think with that budget, you could get a really great white gold ring at Blue Nile. I've ordered earrings and necklaces from there and always love them.

Do you know if your FH would even like to have diamonds on his ring? After much research, my FH got my e-ring from Blue Nile. It's great. He was able to afford to get me much more from there than he could at a jeweler. When I bought my FH's wedding band, however, I got a local jeweler to compete with Blue Nile's prices, and I wound up buying his ring from that jeweler. His band is a 6mm gold ring - I'm not sure of the weight off the top of my head - and it cost just about $600 after taxes.

I got my FH a really nice wedding band from Littman Jewlers for under $200 (even with the lifetime care plan).

I have seen lots of guys with diamonds in their rings. I work with the public though and see lots of differnt types of people.

My Fh is a bit more laid back and isn't interested in fancy. He was clear that he didn't want diamonds cause he felt that was for girls. But everyone is different, and has different tastes. But his ring was still not cheap. I spent $400 on his ring. He really loves it, and wishes he could wear it already so I know what you mean about wanting to get him something he really will love and be excited about wearing.

Consider something 10 k and maybe CZ or a simulated diamond at least for now until you can afford something nicer.

Hi everyone. Sorry for the delay. It's a bit crazy at work.

    @Pumpkin's sunshine, he's an videographer.

@Kimber, thanks. I'll look there. He likes to go against the grain and would like to see a diagonal diamond across a white gold thick band.

@ Andrea. Yes, we went looking at rings together so I could see at least what interested him and he picked the diamond. I'm definitely checking the Nile!

Is it important that it's gold?

Here is a nice sterling silver:

Here is a less expensive white gold one:

It's not the materials or the cost that are important. It's the love, thought, and commitment. ;D

Wow!!! $800 is a pretty good budget, I only spent $200 on FH and he loves his ring, I think you will be able to fine something really nice if you are not looking for it to be blinged out.

Hi ladies. @Pumpkin's Sunshine, I like those. I actually looked at the one from Kay.

@Pan, you are so right about that.

@Mouche. I hope so. I wouldn't mind spending less. I just want his eyes to love it like I love mine. He does so much just by being him. He's an amazing, loving, and God-fearing man. I just want to find something to let him know how much I love and appreciate him.

Check out Amazon! I bought a tungsten band with 1 small diamond in it for $60. It is very similar to the rings he picked out at Jared's that were $500+. He didn't even know the difference and he loves it!

Thanks so much, ladies. All of your suggestions are so helpful and I really appreciate it.

There were no problems with it arriving from online for all who ordered online?

If you do decide to go for something cheaper now and get him something nice later i would recommend going really cheap now. No point spending $300 now on something if you are going to buy something else in a year. Look for Tungsten or silver. Tungsten is actually really nice because it's super strong (gun barrels are made out of it). You can get a good tungsten ring for under $100, then put the rest of the cash towards the nicer ring in the future.

Snow A. How about you tell him how you are feeling now and let him know he might not get exactly what he wants but that you guys can upgrade it on your first anniversary. That's what we are going to do with my wedding band Smiley smile a simple white gold one for now and upgrading by getting diamonds added on our anniversary next year when it is our only cost cause we wont have to worry about a $10,000 wedding.

    Thanks, ladies.

@Kristina, I might do that. But the ladies have presented some great options that I'm going to check out first. Some of these are perfect for him.

As I've seen other ladies say, Amazon is amazing!!! I got my FJ a two tone black and silver Tungsten ring and it was only $30. He absolutely loves it. The best part, though, was that when I got it, it was too big. Not a problem. I wrote the seller (Metal Masters Co.) and they said just to ship it back and they sent me a size half smaller in about 2 weeks.

I hope you find what you are looking for. And no matter what you get, I'm sure he will love it! Good luck!
