Having second thoughts about my wedding band...(pic)

Cyndi K, on October 10, 2011 at 12:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

FH and I went to go get my wedding band. It's been a an adventure since my engagement ring band is shaped funny. So I picked out a straight band and liked it. FH said I could pick what I wanted but that he didn't care for the gaps. We went to several stores and tried on tons of bands and it seems the only way to keep the gaps away is to have a custom band made. I really rather not. ANYWAYS we bought the band and the more I think about it the more I think about what he said. I love the ring, do you think it looks ok? Oh and I know that the band goes first this was my way of trying it on without breaking too many rules about wearing your ring before your married lol.

1.) When you're married, you wear the band on the inside so, flip it around and see if you like it better.

2.) I don't like the gaps either, but ultimately, it's whatever you want to do.

    good luck!

My e-ring is also oddly shaped (I didn't think I was getting an e-ring, thought it was a new promise ring..).

I don't think it looks bad though, but I know it would bother me if it was me too.

The gaps are throwing me off too. I think you should continue shopping b/c you already have buyer's remorse and this is something that you will have to look at for the rest of your life. Get the band that makes you happy and from this post, it's not the right one for you.

Try it on the way it will actually be worn to see if you do like it.

If it were me, and I could afford it, I would have a band custom-made. That way, it will look like the rings go together.

But, of course, if you do like the way it looks, keep it! They are both beautiful rings, and all that matters is that you love the way that finger looks! Smiley smile

Has anyone had a custom band made? If so would you mind sharing about how much it was...even just in a message? And where did you have it done? Sorry for all the questions!

I personally like the gaps because it shows that the wedding band is a separate piece from the engagement ring. The perk to having a band like yours is that if you should ever need to remove your engagement ring you still have a solid ring-looking wedding band - not something that is contoured to fit an engagement ring. If you got a contoured wedding band it would kinda be like the wedding band would then be an accessory to the engagement ring instead of being its own piece. But that's just my opinion. Smiley smile

We had looked at doing custom made bands from a local independently owened jeweler. The cost wasn't any different than "off-the-rack" rings that were similar in design. There was only a design fee (it was $150 at the jeweler we looked at) to be added to the cost.

Very pretty! I think it will look just fine. I think it looks better when the band is on the bottom. Here is a pic of my wedding set. My ring and band style are similar to yours. If I flip them around on my hand I think they look weird. Which is probably why are unsure of it now.

If it was me and I could afford it I would get another identical band and wear one on each side. That way it all matches and the gaps look intentional.

Elizabeth your photos helped a lot! And Caitlin I like your point of if I ever had to just wear my wedding band...very helpful ladies! We were thinking about adding another on the other side for our first anniversary...I just don't know if my short stubby fingers can handle it lol

Cyndi, If I would have had mine custom made, it would have been 1500... we cannot pull it off. So, I went with a beautiful $800---it doesn't fit perfectly, but it still looks very nice.

If you're not happy with it...I wouldn't do itSmiley smile

We went with custom made for both the enggement ring and the band. The band is simple--no diamonds--and is only running us around 450. It never hurts to ask around and see if a good jeweler can help you out.

My e ring is oddly shaped too, it looks like an overlapped circle w a tail (sorry dont have a pic on this comp), i did the jewelry store circuit too looking for a band to fit the notch, i tried curved bands and straight bands and nothing looked right, i couldnt stand the gaps either. almost every one i talked to said i had to have a band custom made and it would cost around $1500 except one guy i met at a bridal show. he owns a little mom and pop jewelry store thats been around for generation, all work done on site. he told me the best way to get what i wanted was to buy a straight band and cut and bend it to fit the notch of my ring, ring plus work cost $700 and i couldnt be happier. (ill post pics tomorrow)

my recommendation would be to find a small store with a good reputation and a background in metal work, in my experience they often have the background and ideas to help you the best

My engagement ring has a similar shape to yours. I originally wanted just a straight wedding band, but DH wanted something that matched a little better. My main concern was that I wanted to be able to wear my wedding band without my engagement ring and not have it look weird. So DH got the band custom made from the same jeweler who made my custom engagement ring. I like it a lot. I questioned it at first, but it has grown on me. Please forgive the blurriness.

Did you try on one with a little dip in it? I just got mine.. it is shaped like a v... I will attach a pic. The straight ones hid under my ring so I couldn't get one of those...

Jessica N- I did try on the V shaped rings but they left more of a gap than the straight one did. I've decided to keep it the more I think about it the more I love my band.
