Hair up or down?

on September 30, 2013 at 6:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 33

I cant seem to make a decision about my hair. I had a hair trial and have attached a picture of it. My inspiration was from a Stacey Keibler updo. I fell in love with it online. However, I'm not sure if it is the style for me. The reason I say this is because I plan on wearing statement earrings (picture attached). I think I can pull them off with an updo because my dress is strapless.

However, I hate my arms and have a huge complex with them. So, in my brain I keep telling myself if I wear my hair down it will take away from my arms and will almost hide them a bit. I have long hair, but I realize this probably sounds insane. I was 210lbs at one point in life, so I think I will always feel insecure with my body. I've attached a picture of a half up style I like, I would just add a braid.

I've heard hair that is down is a pain especially with outside weddings. Am I crazy to think wearing my hair down would help me feel more secure with my arms?

I'm on the right - I thought it might help to show the actual length of my hair.

I like your hair up. Did you get a pic of what it looks like in the back?

And no, you're not crazy for thinking that. I'm right there with you. I want my hair down for our wedding because (although I am losing weight) I don't want my arm fat all over the place.

ETA - Your hair looks really good down, also. It's so long! I'm now officially no help.

I always pose this question, how much do you plan on dancing? If it's more than your first dance, I think you should wear it up. Your arms are fine, but I also know that a stranger telling you that won't change that opinion of yourself. I wouldn't rely on hair for covering anything though. Both styles are beautiful.

I'm the same way about my arms. I was a BM in a wedding before and was do conscious about them that I got extensions to help hide the pudge... But I think, depending on your dress, long hair can actually be distracting. Plus, if you're outside and there's any rain/humidity long hair usually goes to wack. Without seeing your dress, I think I actually like the updo and you have narrower shoulders which helps a ton in strapless. The long hair pic you posted is pretty but her face is hidden IMO.

Awe, you ladies are so sweet...thank you! I am so torn. Part of me feels like I grew my hair out forever for my wedding, so why put it up? At the same time, I also know that it could get wild after dancing. I was hesitant to post my dress, but I think I will just in hopes of getting an opinion one way or another, lol!

I'm going half up, half down. I want to keep it away from my face, but I want the long flowing curls, so that was my middle ground. Otherwise I'd have done all up. Smiley smile

I say down. You want to make sure everyone can see your face and how happy you are. Love your dress, it looks great on you. Two thumps up!

I love your dress!! And you look fabulous with your hair up or down. The question I would ask is how do you normally wear your hair? I always (with the exception of working out) wear my hair down so I am wearing it down for the wedding as I know that wearing it up it won't look like me :0). Now, our ceremony & reception will all be outside so I realize that by the end of it I will be hot and sweaty but I know that I will want my pictures with it down. And you can always have your hair designer show you/BM an easy way to put it up quickly if you want it up at the reception!

I love your dress! I think the updo would look great and be less of a hassle throughout the night. If you're really torn, maybe you can have it down for the ceremony and pictures then have someone put it up for the reception?

If you're more comfortable with it down, go for it. But I really like your hair trail pic

I agree with Amy M. I never wear mine up and wouldn't feel like myself in an updo, so I'm wearing mine down. If you normally wear it down and like it down, I'd say don't change something that you prefer day in and day out. You know you'll look good then.

ETA you will look gorgeous in whatever you choose, but we all critique ourselves endlessly no matter how breathtaking we actually are. Smiley smile

I like down, just because it looks really pretty and it might make you feel more like yourself. Also if you're worried about your arms (which you seriously have nothing to worry about, you look gorgeous in that dress) keep in mind that the veil will also help hide your arms a bit if you keep it wrapped around your arms like in your picture. Of course you might take the veil off later so then it's up to you if you'll still care about the way your arms look for the reception. But seriously...nothing to worry about!

Thank you all for commenting, I appreciate all the help! After I took my hair down from my trial, I did a side braid. I am an avid side braid wearer, lol. I loved the look and thought it would work well with my earrings. However, a few of my friends thought that I shouldn't do a side braid since I wear them so much in everyday life.

I'm having a country wedding and I thought the side braid could be a happy middle point between up and down. I have thin hair, so I'm scared to do anything down only because I fear it may just not be very full looking. I'm on a budget too, so I'd like to avoid extensions

    What do you all think?

I had my hair half up half down for a wedding I was in, we didn't do much vigorous dancing but it got SO HOT! I wish I would have put it up!
