Guests forgetting wedding favors

FutureMrs.Ruffalo, on October 10, 2016 at 10:25 AM Posted in Planning 0 87

Now, someone already just posted what you guys are doing for wedding favors. My question is to people who have been at weddings or already had their wedding, how many actually forget to take them? I have a really cute idea for wedding favors: Pint glass with our names, date, and an old vintage man and woman picture on there. It's about $1.50 a glass and I'm having about 120 give or take guests. Side note: the majority of people at our wedding will be in their late night 20s and the wedding will end at 1am. Do a lot of people forget to take them? Who has a story because I would love to hear about it!

People don't forget to take favors like that, they "forget" to take them. If I take home a glass with other people's name and wedding date on them, it will almost certainly end up in my trashcan when I get home.

It's pretty much agreed that if you're going to have personalized favors, they need to be edible.

I will always leave a favor that has the couples name and date on it. Why would I want 1 glass that doesn't match anything I already have?

Edible is the way to go. Or just don't have favors and upgrade your food and booze.

@mna You would throw away a perfectly good drinking glass? Like I said, most of my guests are young so that's why I thought of the idea. Also, my friend did this as well and I still have her glass and love it!

My cousins wedding had candles with their picture on it as a favor. It was cute and I still have it 10 years later. I'd put them on the table so people told miss them or forget. I think it's a very cute idea!

As edible favors are good, I don't think that they are your only option, but I would limit the personalization. We are not having edible favors, but none of the things we are giving our guests have our names on them. I think the glass idea is cool, but maybe instead of your names and date think of something else that would connect them to your day. Or maybe just put the date (and possibly locations) and not the names. At our house, a glass is a glass, but some people find it weird to drink out of something with someone's name on it.

I don't want someone's name and date or random picture watching me drink. It'd be cute at the wedding but then I'd forget mine.

This is one of the reason I am either skipping favors or doing edible favors. I went to a retirement party this past weekend and they had personalized shot glasses, there were a lot left on the tables. I did shot glass for my 30th party and had a lot left over. Won't make the same mistake twice. I take shot glasses because I collect them regardless of who name is on them.

Our wedding favors were chocolate chip cookie mix in a Mason jar and we had 1 left at the end of the night. Thank god bc I didn't think to keep one home for us. Our favors didn't have any personalization on them except for on the thank you tag.

A friend of ours did these cute tea light lanterns that held the place card, they said 70% of people left them behind because they didn't realize they were favors.

If you are having a dj/mc, inform him/her to make an announcement that the wedding favors are to take home. Sometimes, people think that the wedding favors are just to decorate the table and it must stay not to take home. If it's announced maybe more people will remember and acknowledge the wedding favor. Good luck!

I would definitely throw it away or not take it. I have matching glasses, why would I want one random one with someone else's name and wedding date on it.

They don't forget, they just don't want them.

I would not want a single, mismatched glass for anything. I would want it even LESS if it had your name and information on it, If you managed to guilt me into taking the thing, it would go directly into the goodwill box. - Because yes in my late 20's I had matching drink ware, and zero use for or desire to have your wedding date and names on shit.

I'm sorry but, not many people will actually use something that has another couples wedding date or names on it. Your closest friends and family might appreciate them and save them and that's about it. We did candy favors and there were barely any left over afterwards.

Maybe you could fill the shot glasses with candy and skip the personalization. ETA - my bad, pint glasses.

Some people leave them, I know if I have extras I will have extra glasses for plenty of time since I break my wine glasses and mugs almost every other time I do the dishes, hence why FH doesn't let me do dishes lol. I like personalized favors, but I won't be hurt if people leave them. I know my MOH said she is gonna hunt down extras so she has one to use and one to display. People close to you will keep them, others wont. It also depends on your crowd.

We did stadium cups with our name and date on it. My hope was that more would take it for the fact that they were tumblers and easy for children to use as well as adults. We did see a lot of people using them at the wedding. We ended up with about 75 cups. But ours only cost 40 cents a cup. No way would I spend $1.50 per glass. That is pretty expensive. I would suggest sticking to an inexpensive favor so you don't end up with buyers remorse after the wedding.

I'd say about 50% were left behind and I had something edible. I think this was due to where they were located in the room.

I would NOT want your cup and I wouldn't take it. I don't want something with peoples names on it. Get a few for you and your H. If you want to do favors, edible is the way to go.

Well OP, if we're being honest here, no. I would take the glass, and probably a couple that others left behind (so I have a set of at least 4), take them home, and wrap them in an acetone soaked paper towel and aluminum foil until the silkscreen ink came off. Then I'd wash and use normally.

I wouldn't keep the other people's name and date though, and most people don't realize how simple it is (nor do they have the stuff on hand) to remove the ink from something like that.

Either way, I'd get free glasses, and the part you paid so much for would be gone. Most people will throw them away.

I felt this way about personalized stuff back when I was 18, too. Age has nothing to do with it.
