Glasses? Yay or Nay?

I wear glasses, not super blind, but trying to decide if I should get contacts for the wedding. I'm worried I won't look like myself without my glasses, but I also want my makeup to show perfectly. When I tried on my dresses, my family kept telling me to take off my glasses. What did you do? Do you...

My sister did this since medically she cannot wear contacts. She looked good. She also asked all her bridesmaids to wear their glasses which was a unique idea but the photos suffered. It really is up to what you want to do.

I usually wear glasses (I'm too lazy to put in contacts everyday before work - and transition lenses are nice when you work outside for part of your day), but wear contacts when I'm dressing up, or even just for a day off, so I'm planning on contacts for my wedding day. I think if you always wear glasses, you should wear them on your wedding day. Maybe try on your dress with and without them and get some pictures to decide?

I'm super duper torn on this... I've worn glasses since I was 6. Contacts don't work well with my eyes (astigmatism)... so I'm working to find some more 'bridal' glasses. I also just don't know how to control my face without glasses on it! I feel super uncomfortable without my glasses on..

I actually just got a bunch of shapes to try on from Warby Parker!

Also one of my coworkers is dating an ophthalmologist - so it's a personal project of her's now to find the perfect frames for me.

I think it's definitely situational though. I totally understand not wanting to wear glasses. I may take mine off for some pictures - but I ended up hating the engagement pics we have where my glasses are off :/

ETA: OP I do love your glasses! They suit your face perfectly Smiley smile

I have glasses and contacts, but I wear glasses most of the time because I have a very slight astigmatism that is treated with glasses, but astigmatism contacts are too much. If you've never worn them before, you'll definitely want to start wearing them daily well before the wedding, a few hours a day and working up. Otherwise, you may find your eyes watering or you may have trouble with dryness or a multitude of other things that crop up when you aren't used to them.

Ideally, contacts should not even feel like they're in once your eyes have adjusted. I personally love Acuvue Advanced lenses, but they are not a good fit for everyone. You may need to try 2-3 brands to find comfortable ones, they're all different. Soft lenses should suction to the eye and be comfortable, not like they're going to fall out and not tight. There are a lot of things to keep in mind, but I love my lenses for stuff like swimming, going places like amusement parks, vacations, special occasions I wear makeup, etc. I definitely recommend them!!

Very good post Tori! I am totally blind without my glasses, have been since grade school, but for my wedding I wore contacts. When I photograph anyone who is wearing glasses, the following are things that need to watched for :

-glass glare. Even if the lenses are non reflective, the anit glare coating can cast a haze over the lens. Sometimes retouching is not available.

    - on close ups, the edge of the face will be distorted in the glass lens. Not a big deal for me but some people do not like that.

    - depending on the angle, the arm/bar of the glasses will cover the eye. I have gotten some pretty sweet emotional candids but the eye was covered by the arm of the glass frame.

    Congrats and best wishes!!!!

I decided not to wear mine. I can't wear contacts though, so I wore nothing, haha.

I was OK for the most part because I can see everything/everyone, albeit a bit blurry. The downside was that I was squinting a few times during the ceremony.

I basically can't see without my glasses. I went and got contacts. I prefer contacts anyway because they give me peripheral vision, but I had run out so I timed a fresh exam and new box of lenses to definitely have them for the wedding.

Fiance can see pretty well without his, so he'll probably just have them in his pocket for most of the evening.

Your glasses are so cute!! I would say if you really don't want to wear them then get contacts for your wedding day but you definitely don't have to.

Just a side note for all you brides planning to get contacts just for your wedding, you need to build up to wearing them all day long. Wear them for a few hours and increase it by 2 hours each day. Otherwise your eyes will be super irritated and who's got time for that on their wedding day?

I wear my glasses 98% of the time except special occasions. I'll be wearing contacts for the wedding. If you've never worn contacts, I'd wear them a couple times leading up to the wedding to make sure they're comfortable and you don't have problem wearing make up or your eyes get too dry, etc.

I got a 1 month pair in October and I probably wore them 4 times. It took me forever to put them in and take them out. So I'll need to practice.

I wear glasses and I haven't quite decided either. I can't do contacts and don't have too much of a need for them when I don't wear my glasses. I kinda liked my dress better with glasses, but I want to see with makeup before I decide.

I don't like the look of glasses with formal gowns. For some reason, it looks less put together. But that's just my personal preference. You should do what makes your comfortable.

I'll be wearing my glasses. I can't imagine not wearing them. I've worn them every single day since I was 12, so I don't even recognize myself in photos without them. I look fine in my engagement photos, I'll look fine in my wedding photos.

Side note, semi-related. I went to an event with a coworker a few weeks ago and we had our photo taken together. There was a slight glare on my glasses from the flash, and she turned to me and said, "You should have taken your glasses off. It would make the picture look better." RUDE.

    No glasses!

as a fellow glasses wearer, I would suggest that you don't wear glasses on your wedding day!

I'm so glad you asked this! I've been curious what others do.

I wear glasses, but I can see fine without them (astigmatism. My right eye is 20/20 though, so without glasses it pretty much compensates). I was actually hoping to find out to give my FH advice on why others chose for or against. He can't see well without his glasses. He used to wear contacts before I met him, but I think after a while he opted for glasses (being that they are more comfortable for him).

Anyway, no advice! Just wanted to thank you for the post - glad you thought to ask lol.

Great question. I wear glasses and I was wondering the same thing, but then I was like I don't want him to feel like he's marrying a different person. My glasses are apart of me. Reading some views has me second guessing myself again.

    I don't wear glasses, but.

I don't believe in women drastically changing how they look and being uncomfortable for the sake of their wedding day. If you are recognized and comfortable with glasses more than contacts, then fuck it. Wear glasses.

I feel the same with drastic color changes, outrageous extensions for hair, extreme make up, and tattoo/piercing cover ups.
