Glasses? Yay or Nay?

Tori, on February 4, 2016 at 9:03 AM

I wear glasses, not super blind, but trying to decide if I should get contacts for the wedding. I'm worried I won't look like myself without my glasses, but I also want my makeup to show perfectly. When I tried on my dresses, my family kept telling me to take off my glasses. What did you do? Do you...

@Spazzy, I wear glasses but prefer to wear contacts when I wear more formal attire. I like the look better. It's MY preference...and I can see just as well with contacts as glasses ;-) Do you.

Your glasses are so cute! I've been thinking about this as well. I wear contacts most of the time so I will be wearing them for our wedding day. My fiancé wears glasses most of the time but he takes them off for photos. I don't think he'll want to wear them for our wedding and I want him to be able to actually see everything (though his eyesight isn't that bad) so I will probably recommend getting contacts for him for our wedding day.

Maybe just get some contacts and try it out? See how you feel since you've never worn them before. I personally like contacts a lot better than glasses, but that's just my preference.

Sunni, not everyone can wear contacts. Sorry if someone's medically-necessary device is unattractive to you.

I personally wore my contacts, because that's what I wear day-to-day. I don't even know where my glasses are.

My husband wore his glasses. He was so handsome :-)

Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. I wear glasses and so does FH so we'll both have glasses on for the wedding. I like how I look with them on, and I'm comfortable in them. Why would I get contacts (which I've tried before to no avail) for one day of my life?

And to answer OP, you look terrific in those glasses! I have pretty mild visual impairments and contacts over-correct for me, so I may do what VC did and go without for some of the wedding (likely just the ceremony) and maybe some pictures. I'm definitely rocking my glasses during the reception so I don't get headaches. My dress has pockets so I plan to keep a pair handy.

If you wear glasses 100% of the time, they are basically a part of you. And why should you change yourself on your wedding day? I feel the same with brides covering their tattoos, (unless they hate a specific one).

Don't feel like you need to change yourself on your wedding day! If you want to wear contacts, that's fine. But you don't NEED to wear contacts if you are comfortable with your glasses, and don't let anyone tell you so.

That all said, if you want to wear contacts, you can probably get a trial pair for free from your eye doctor. Start wearing them a few weeks before the wedding to get used to them, so you don't get a bad reaction and have red eyes the day of.

OP, for what it's worth, I think you look beautiful in your glasses!

Agree Mrs Kassy. If you wear glasses most or all of the time, wear them to the wedding! You will look like you. Plus glasses can be really sexy and OBVIOUSLY they make you look smart. Ha. I wear contacts more often than not, so I'll probably wear contacts for the wedding... but I wouldn't hesitate to wear my glasses if I hadn't started wearing contacts regularly. And to Sunni saying they look sloppy... that's absurd.

I agree that you look just gorgeous in your glasses and if you wear them all the time and feel you wouldn't look like yourself without them then I would wear them! I don't think there's a single thing about glasses that make someone look "less put together." I only wear glasses for reading and computer work but when FH catches me wearing them, he wants to jump my bones. Glasses can be sexy! Smiley smile

I'll be wearing my glasses. Apparently, I'll look sloppy to some people (wth lol), but I can't use contacts for medical reasons and I can't see without them. That's the way my cookie has crumbled. Smiley smile

I don't see anything sloppy about my glasses with a formal gown in this photo. Sorry for the gratuitous self-promotion here, but I think FH & I look damn good. And not at all sloppy. And I'm wearing glasses. So there lol.

I vote no contacts, unless they are fancy and match the style (I am thinking like retro cat eye glasses would be amazing if it went with the outfit). I always think they look out of place with a gown.

I would go without glasses. I wear both contacts and glasses, but I always like to have no glasses for pictures. The glare eats up my face.

I agree with Celia and Kassie, i would look into getting a fancy( metallic or "glitzy") pair. i think the glasses add character.

Zenni optical has absurdly cheap glasses. They start at $6.95 including lenses! My glasses didn't look great with my gown so I bought some new ones from there that I'm pretty happy with and now wear all the time.

@minnemiska: I also wore my glasses during the reception Smiley smile I just skipped them for the ceremony and photos Smiley smile

I can't wear contacts because they do something bad to my cornea. Can't remember what it was, I found out over 15 years ago.
