Glasses? Yay or Nay?

Tori, on February 4, 2016 at 9:03 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 81

I wear glasses, not super blind, but trying to decide if I should get contacts for the wedding. I'm worried I won't look like myself without my glasses, but I also want my makeup to show perfectly. When I tried on my dresses, my family kept telling me to take off my glasses. What did you do? Do you regret it?

I would wear contacts. I work in Ophthalmology and sooooo many brides come in just for contact lenses for their wedding day only! I'm wearing contact lenses on my wedding.

I wear glasses all day everyday! I've tried contacts in the past, but they really irritate my eyes, even the ones that are supposed to be super hydrating! For me I also have light sensitivity and it's an outdoor ceremony, so I'm really torn lolz. It's been a while since I've tried them, so I'll probably give them another shot just for a day. But ultimately it's all about what makes you comfortable!

I've been wondering this myself too!

I've had glasses since the 2nd grade so I've pretty much had them all my life.

But I tried thinking if I could ever recall seeing a bride wearing glasses and I just could not.

I've used contacts once before but I suppose I will have to consider getting them again.

This is a question for me to9 I have contacts but never wear them, so I feel most myself with glasses. And my eyes get dry and irritated after 4 hours of contacts. So I'm thinking I'll wear them for ceremony and photos and first dance, then change out for the real party

I'm wearing contacts. I wear glasses all of the time. I just stopped in and saw my eye doctor. And asked him if I could just order a pair or two. He just gave them to me for free.

I like your glasses i think it would be really cute, what about getting a fancy pair for the wedding if its in budget?

i think its better to be yourself, especially if you typically like the way you look in your glasses. why change for one day?

@Emily- That's probably what I'll do too! My glasses are purple on the outside and pink on the inside, not good for pictures lolz.

My FI wears glasses too, I've never ever seen him in contacts before lolz. Does anyone know if grooms have worn their glasses in photos before?

And does anyone know how much a little pack/a pair (is it possible to just buy one pair?) of contacts for just wearing them for a day like this would be lolz?

I have horrible vision and can actually see better with contacts than with glasses (it has to do with how contacts move with your eye where glasses are only your exact prescription when you're looking directly forward). I still have a back-up pair of glasses which I also wear to get from the bathroom to my bed, but I'm definitely #TeamContacts

All of my friends that have glasses, wore their glasses on their wedding day. They felt like they don't look like themselves without them. Two of my BMs will be wearing their glasses as well.

I plan on wearing contacts for my wedding day. I am blind as a bat without them so opting to not wear them for the ceremony & pictures will not work for me!

I'm not wearing my glasses, but I can see enough without them that I don't need to get contacts. They really annoy me so I usually only wear them for work or sometimes when we leave the house.

Nicole R, check out Warby Parker. That is were my glasses are from and they are only $95. Best part, they send you 5 (at 1 time) to try on at home. I love mine.

So I have only worn glasses for about 1.5 years now. So when I look at pictures of myself without them, it's weird. I tried on contacts for the first time for the month of October and it took me a hour to put them in and take them out lol. I have very watery eyes, so they weren't terribly uncomfortable.

I didn't decide what I want to do yet. I just ordered glasses with anti-glare just in case I want them for wedding photos. I did the makeup trial with no glasses but I still liked the way I looked with them on. FH has glasses. I won't get contacts if I decide not to wear the glasses because my vision isn't that terrible and I am afraid of them!

Did you get a makeup trial yet? You could try with/without the glasses and take lots of pictures to see what you prefer!

FH and I both have glasses, I wear mine religiously. I don't plan on wearing them for the wedding though. my eyes aren't too bad, just things far away.

I do plan on having them on the sweetheart table so I can throw them on while eating at least.

FH and I both wear glasses! We took our engagement pictures without them to see how it turned out // if we looked like ourselves. We have decided not to wear them because of the glare and because I personally can't imagine them with my dress.

I'll be wearing mine. For my engagement pictures, I took some pictures with my glasses and some without. My makeup looked fine in all of the pictures (maybe because it was airbrush). I'll probably do the same for wedding day pictures.

About learning to put in contacts...

I have worn them since I was 13 and can basically do it with my eyes closed (lol), but FH only got contacts for the first time a couple years ago. It look him several months to be able to get them to stay in on the first try, but can do it easily now. It's the whole old dog learning new tricks thing

I can see close up perfectly, it's just far away I'm 20/40, 20/50 so I can't see say the tv sitting on my couch. @Tania, that is a great idea! Thank you! I have not had my makeup trial yet (I'm still 14m away from wedding) but I'm now pretty sure I'm going to just wear contacts. I need to just get used to seeing myself without my glasses.

I haven't worn contacts in 5 years, but I'm trying again next month when I go for my annual to see if they've improved. My exact prescription was not available the last time so she got it as close as possible. It was really annoying to me not to have perfectly clear vision so I just gave up on them. They also gave me giant bags under my eyes and headaches because I was straining -certainly something I don't want on my wedding day! I had a consultation for LASIK too - I am a candidate, buuuut that's $4200 I did not put on our wedding budget lmao. My parents offered to help pay and we both have a Care Credit card, but I'm still on the fence. If the contacts are still off/uncomfortable, I might just bite the bullet because I know I don't want to wear glasses.
