Gifts for parents. Do you buy them a gift even if they didn't help pay for anything?

I don't think so. If you want to share a nice sentiment with them for their role in your life up to this point, you could write them a card.

My father isn't giving me any money towards the wedding but I'm still getting him something. My father raised both myself and by brother since I was 12. He worked 2 jobs, 7 days a week and paid for proms, sports, took us on vacations and even purchased our first cars for us. I don't expect a dime from him for the rest of my life considering how much he sacraficed just to be able to provide anything and everything for us.

We got modest gifts for the parents - picture frames and such. I don't think you need to go crazy, but it's nice to acknowledge them in some way.

We got both sets of parents gifts and gave them at the rehearsal dinner. We gave them wedding albums for Christmas. It's not a requirement, but a nice gesture.

I got them both bracelets from etsy...really cheap but really cute on the inside it says "thanks for raising the man/woman of my dreams"

We are going to do family tree plaques. I did one for my parents years ago and their have been updates to my family since then. and his parents don't have one...

We got Jesse's dad and his wife something because we got the other parents something.

Well my dad's gift will be me paying for his darn tux. Idk what to get my mother, well she told my sister she's not coming so that'll save me some money. I will get my FMIL something small though.

I'm leaving that up to FH on if he wants to get his parents anything - most likely we won't.

They may not have purchased anything for you, but did they help out in any way? Maybe your mom will help decorate or light candles, maybe your Dad will pickup your flowers from the florist or something...if they do, I would get them a gift- or at least a thank-you card.

If not, I would just personally thank them for supporting you in your day.

My mom and dad are paying 1/2 of the expenses. They have asked us not to get them a gift, but rather put it towards something that we need.

I'm getting my parents something because they are paying for the entire wedding. We'll most likely get FH's parents something small because they're awesome people and really great parents. This is what I had in mind...nothing big though.

My parents did absolutely nothing. No help whatsoever. My FMIL helped me organize my wedding. Oh & my FFIL paid for our kids' tuxes. So they will def get a gift. My own parents will get nothing since they helped with nothing...but thanks for the input ladies

Great question bcz I wondering that same thing. But I simply put it as, if they don't help-they get no gift! We're payin for this all on our own. So, a thank you card will do! Thanks ladies!
