Gifts for girls who aren't "girly"...

Nicole S. (formerly Nicole C), on October 18, 2012 at 10:09 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

I have a few girls in my BP who aren't exactly "girly"... don't wear makeup, jewelry, won't go to a spa or get their nails done... etc.

I'm not entirely sure where to go with their presents...maybe picture frames? A personalized keychain? Just curious if anyone else was doing something similar and what your ideas are...

Happy Thursday Smiley smile

It's not as exciting.. but I've heard of some brides paying for their BM's to get their hair/makeup done or paying for part of their attire as part of their gifts?!

What about a cool giftcard to a unique place? Favorite restaurant? B&B within driving distance from where they (& SO) live?

That sounds similar to me, though I do get pedicures. I say shop for them like you would for their birthdays. Do you know their hobbies? Get them a good book if they read, camping stuff if their outdoorsy, etc.

I have two girls that are really into horses, a softball player and my sister (who is girly). I was originally thinking of getting them all the same thing, but I suppose I could get them all something different...but I'm afraid that might get complicated. I tend to overthink Smiley smile

Lol mine are getting shoes, jewelry, photo frames and then some personal things that I know they'll like

You just have to know them to know what to get them. That's the hard part

I really like the idea of different gifts.. it sounds intimidating at first, but the gifts will probably be better appreciated Smiley smile

True- two of them are my FH's sisters (2 of them always pair up when buying the third a gift...and usually the girls just buy for each other and FH pays them back so he is essentially useless lol), one is my neighbor that I grew up with and my sister will be easy to buy for...

But I'll take all the ideas I can get so feel free to share away Smiley smile

Are they into sports? How about tickets to a game or a personalized jersey?

I did a gift bag with the following:

    Personalized Travel Coffee Cup

    Personalized Travel Water Bottle

A lunch tote filled with travel items - deodorant, nail file, candle, make up remover wipes, q-tips, advil, nice smelling soaps, and on & on (we were a hotel venue so I put stuff in there that someone might forget)

Matching purse for the dress, black opera gloves, jewelry & bling hair fasteners

Feather boa for fun bridal pics

Spa Robe on a personalized hanger & matching Flip Flops

Now that the wedding is over, I sent them each a gift certificate from a local maid service so they could take a day off & relax

I personally love restaurant and gas gift cards. One year I got a new wallet filled with different gift cards and it was awesome!

Is there a stable near you where they can ride for the day or something like that? Or take a lesson? Get a gift certificate for that.

I had four girly BMs and a not-girly MOH. I did shawls (they were part of the bridesmaid attire) and nice cocktail shakers (you can find Martha Stewart brand mini shakers for, I think, $20 for a two-pack at Macy's). I only wish I'd thought to get their monograms on their shakers, that would have been cuter.

I was in a wedding in March - like your BP, none of my friends are girly (me included..). We are all big sports fans, so she got each of us a hockey jersey of our favourite team. It was perfect - and I'll actually use it (if the stupid NHL ever decides to start playing again..grr!)

If you decide to get them all something different, you could get the horse girls an engraved crop, or an embroidered saddle cover or something like that! (If they ride English) Or a gift card to Dover Saddlery or SmartPak. They would love that!

As a PP said, shopping for them like it's their birthday is the best way; since you don't know them that well, you could try asking FH if he knows what his sisters usually buy for each other.

Keep in mind that anything you buy for the BMs to wear or use as part of the wedding day (like jewelry) aren't considered gifts--if you're forcing it on them because you want pictures of you all wearing matching shirts you also need to get them something else as their real thank you gift.

They aren't into drinking otherwise I would love to do the cocktail shakers- I know they ride Western- they have their own horses but I don't know much about them otherwise I would probably get them something that goes with their horses- does anyone know about Western riding?

Not girly and not into sports or drinking...how did I luck out?? Haha...these are all really good ideas though.

Oh and I know people appreciate gift cards but I try so hard to make things personal... I'll use it as a last resort if I can't think of anything- at the very least I tried to be thoughtful Smiley smile

Nicole-- I don't know much about western, but there are these bracelets that people love and can be engraved with the girls' horses names:
