Getting Ready Photos: Are You Doing or Ditching?

Cathy, on August 27, 2019 at 4:07 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 24
I’m ditching them. I don’t need to wast the photographer’s time on pictures of me getting dressed and made up. I haven’t even picked a hairstyle yet, and I’ll probably do my own makeup. I had my hair and makeup done for when I was MOH at my best friend’s wedding-I hardly recognize myself, and it doesn’t scream “me.”

What are you all doing? Comment below.

We're doing a few, but definitely not the whole process. The photographer will arrive an hour before we're finished getting ready. She'll do detail shots of the venue, accessories, etc. first, then just a few photos of us getting ready and my mom helping me into my dress.

We're ditching. I think she might get a shot or two of her doing the ties on our boys, and I'm sure there will be selfies after I'm dressed, but it was more important to me to have pictures of us with our family and guests.

Ditching! Other than putting on lipstick and my mom zipping my dress.

We have getting ready photos but they didn’t start until AFTER hair and make up. These are
more just candid pre-wedding hanging photos. They are some of the most genuine captures — the first time my mom saw me in my dress, her helping me with my buttons , me helping her with my necklace, my girls laughing at me when I couldn’t figure out how to put my shoes on after getting in my dress ...couple of H just hanging with his guys. Absolutely nothing posed. Honestly these are most of my favorite pictures. I didn’t keep my photographer around all day, but these very real candid moments were what I did want.

Ditch! One of my bridesmaids brought her camera and took a few pics while we were getting ready, otherwise my photographer showed up about 10 minutes before our first look. He actually took quite a few of the last minute "finishing touch" pictures and we got a ton of those (maybe 20 total from the 10 minutes he was there). That was enough for me, and I was glad we didn't pay an extra $100 per hour for more time or whatever his price was.

I want them!! Honestly they're some of my favorite pics when I look at other people's wedding albums. I love the quietness of the photos... and then the big reveal! To die for.

We did them for the bridesmaids & groomsmen! Our photographer came 2 hours before our ceremony so she got all the details shots done, final hair and makeup touches, the groomsmen getting ready, their scotch toast, bridesmaids champagne toast, etc.

We're doing them! I think they're cute! I also just got my bridesmaids' getting ready outfits yesterday so I'm excited to see everyone in them!

I'm going to have her do some when we all are done, I don't need photos of me with no makeup on! I didn't buy any matching outfits since I fell it's a waste but she csn still take a few posed pictures. Definitely not spending much time on it! Also, for timing purposes she can be there when you're getting ready and be taking details shots of your dress, jewelry, invites, etc.

Ditching. Not worth the extra $$$ for the extra time with the photographer.

Ditching. They're staged anyway 99% of the time. Photographer just wants to stage my people helping me into my dress - like zipping it. I think that's okay.

Basically ditching. We will have a few photos of my mom and bridal party zipping me up, and same for my FW, but that is pretty much it. I really don’t care about photos of me getting my hair and makeup done nor do I care about photos of me and my friends in robes or pajamas. And I agree with you, our photographers time can be better spent elsewhere!

I may have a couple, but mainly because the photographer is one of my best friends and she wants to give me the while "bridal" treatment

Yes, but to an extent. My photographer and I are only planning on her coming in at the end to get the typical shots: helping me in my dress, final touches, etc.

I didn't think about having the photographer take our photos while getting ready tbh. At this point, I think not because I'm sure a Bridesmaid could take decent pictures on a phone/camera if I end up wanting them in the moment!

Yes! we’re getting the Full Treatment! As a Gift for us from my from my FIL(He’s a professional Photographer, here in Las Vegas! He’ll be bringing his assistant to help him.

If we had to pay for it,then we’ll just be getting the last hour at the bridals suite, then the ceremony and reception.

We will do some, but not the whole getting ready process. We’re doing a small, casual wedding with no bridal party, so it wouldn’t even make sense to pay money for that. So we will get some pictures of the final touches, but that’s about it.

Makeup pictures yes I am ditching but getting the dress on (buttoning up or what not) and some of those pics I like. I don't want the pic of people helping putting my shoes on cuz I think those are so weird. So long as I am sitting I can put my own boots on Smiley xd

We're doing a few, but not a bunch. My photographer is going to be getting there around the time where we need to start getting ready for bridals & bridesmaids pictures, but I specifically wanted a few pictures of me with the girls with the shirts and robes that were custom made for them!
