Forgo RSVP Cards Entirely for Online Responses?

Asheyna, on January 21, 2013 at 5:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 24

We're close to finalizing the guest list and the venue and now my attention is turning to the invites. I have a pretty good idea of what style I'd like to do but now I'm wondering about RSVP cards.

Is anyone else doing their RSVPs totally online via their wedding website? Trying to decide if I wanna save the money and do it that way or go with the more traditional approach.

This whole wedding is an exercise in my budget-side vs my etiquette/tradition side lol.

For our ceremony/luncheon invitations, we had an RSVP card, but it just said which URL to use for RSVPs. It wasn't something that could be mailed back, and we used it only because there wasn't room on the invitations themselves. For our at-home reception invitations, we just put the RSVP information on the invitation. We had only one person who had difficulty with the online RSVP, and he was our oldest guest.

We're trying to balance budget and tradition as well but we decided to stick to tradition with invitations and we're setting up an email account for rsvps for rehearsal dinner and showers.

I had thought about it for "green" purposes - I was going to include them, but without the stamp, and then give the option to RSVP online, thinking most guests would do that and wouldn't need the stamp. I would have included the stamp on the ones that I know for sure would use the card, like my grandma.

But then I found mad lib response cards. Screw the environment! haha.

We gave our guests both options. Only those who live overseas preferred online RSVP. Everybody else sent the card back. Yes, everyone is computer savvy and all that jazz, but somehow people liked the cards. Unless you have 600 guests, it doesn't cost that much extra.

@ Beth - It's funny, I saw those Mad Lib response cards too and that's part of my struggle as well! lol

Maybe if we print them on recycled paper? Smiley laugh

@Beth - Mad Lib RSVPs? That sounds impossible to pass up! Smiley smile

We're going to offer both online and the paper. We have a few guests that wouldn't be fond of doing online RSVPs lol, so we need paper for them to mail.

I'm doing what 2nd bride did. Mine will be online only. I will include our contact info for guest having trouble and I can do it for them. I am making them on Vistaprint on the business cards (its not complete)

Well you see the plan was that we were going to provide our address, phone numbers, and wedding website for people to RSVP how they wished. My colleague said she didn't provide an RSVP card, just her address and she got like 100 different and beautiful RSVP card responses.

But as I was ordering our invites on vistaprint, I was playing around with RSVP cards on the free postcards with $10 paper upgrade fee and FH really wanted them for those that aren't as internet savvy... so he won and I ordered RSVP cards...

We're going with online RSVPs, and will have a few paper RSVP cards for our older guests.

I think I will do online with the option to RSVP by phone call. I know I won't need more paper floating around, and nearly all of our guests are ok with doing it online.

I wouldn't do all online, simply because I don't know how internet-savvy everyone is on our list. For example, my grandparents and FH's grandparents would not know the first thing about how to RSVP online. Now, I know that we will probably be getting their RSVP's verbally anyway, but other people, such as OOT and older extended family guests may not be ready/sure how to get online and do the RSVP. I was thinking about giving both options but I really don't want to try to remember who RSVP'd online and who sent theirs in, and some people may do both, it's just too much for me to keep track of. I'm doing all mail-in/call/tell me in person, and my mom and I will follow up with anyone who hasn't responded in any form if it comes to that.

I'm doing RSVP's online or by phone. Theres gonna be an RSVP card with a link to my site and a phone number for older guests who aren't very computer literate.

I don't like rsvp by mail for many reasons. Mainly because i really don't want to pay for stamps and secondly because I just feel like no one actually uses them. they lose them or something and never actually send it out. I HATE recieving those dang RSVP my mail cards. Why do i have to use snail mail this is 2013!

I'm doing online and phone rsvp only. I thought about it a lot and it just makes the most sense to me. I'm including a business card with info on how to rsvp with the invite.

I did it all online, and it would have been okay if I had also explained within the invitation that it really was important for everyone to RSVP. I was also trying to drive everyone to the website to get them to read the important info - no kids, unplugged ceremony, no open bar, etc. It didn't work out that way.

I don't think having mail in RSVPs would have made much difference with our crowd, or by phone -- the people that knew to RSVP did so without trouble, the problem was in the folks that didn't realize why we would even question if they'd be there.

People go to wedding websites a lot less than we seem to think. So I wouldn't necessarily say don't do online only, just be very aware of your guests and what you think would work best.
