For you ladies who can't wear jewelry at work..

JulieR, on June 1, 2015 at 6:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 24

What are you doing about wedding bands? I work as a zookeeper and can't wear my engagement ring at work, but would really like to be able to wear a ring all the time after I am married. I was thinking about getting just a small plain band, but also wanted something with a little more sparkle. Has anyone else gotten two bands, one for work and one for after work or is that a bit of a waste?

I personally haven't done this, but if it makes sense for you and is in your budget then I'd say go for it!

I scrub in surgery. No rings allowed. I leave them at home because I am afraid of losing it at work. I just put on my ring when I am home. And zookeeper sounds like a very cool job!!!!

Have you thought about a women's Qalo ring? I'm not sure if you know what those are but they're basically ring substitutes for people who are very active / aren't allowed to wear rings. I got FH one because he's a firefighter, Most of the men on his department have them.

My uncle got two rings, a very plain silver one and the real, white gold one. In his line of work it would be quite easy to damage the ring.

@MrandMrsG - I have never heard of qalo before, but it looks like a good option for FH. He can't wear a ring for safety reasons at his job, so I pretty much only expected him to wear a ring for special occasions. But then he got in a motorcycle accident this past summer and messed up his left hand pretty bad. His ring finger knuckle is almost twice the size of his other ones now, and I doubt it will ever go back to normal. So I thought we would have to get a stupid large ring for pictures to fit over his knuckle, but would be so big it wouldn't stay on his finger. Does your FH's ring have any give or stretch to it at all?

@D&D thanks it is amazing pretty much every day!!

@MrandMrsG what a great idea!! I haven't heard of these but they seem perfect. I can definitely wear that at work and then get whatever band I want for after work. FH always gets sad when I don't wear a ring, even though he knows I can't at work, so I was looking for something that I can wear no matter what. Thanks!!

I've never heard of qalo but I'm getting one! I HATE that I can't wear a ring working out at the gym. I leave mine at home and my hand just feels naked. This is the perfect answer! Thanks!

FH was a pipe fitter for over 10 years and because of this we got him a very sturdy palladium ring. However, he then decided that at the risk of losing his finger he was not going to wear it at all at work. He has since changed jobs and will be able to wear his ring all the time but when I purchased it he decided for safety he would just go without a ring.

@pinguino We have it in our gun safe so I haven't touched it since I bought it a few months ago, but I THINK there was a slight stretch to it-- but I can't say for sure.

But yeah, I think they're meant to be able to snap off or slide off easier so your finger doesn't get degloved if something crazy happens.

I wear my engagement ring now but I bump the diamond all the time at work. Once I get my wedding band I just intend to wear that at work.

I suck at words so here's a nice review that should tell you what you need to know. It's pretty interesting

My fiancé won't be able to wear his ring while he's working, deployed, or at the gym so we are also doing the qalo rings. We have friends who have them and they're awesome!

I also think your job is cool. Could you have a necklace with your ring on it? Or maybe a toe ring?

I work in a hospital, My official band is a vintage 14mm wide yellow gold band, but it will definitely get damaged in the equipment I handle, we also got a set of Tungsten bands so I wouldn't ruin my beautiful band.

Those of you who leave rings at home for safe keeping, please keep in mind that houses are broken into ... and jewelry is one of the things thieves want most. If you are leaving jewelry at home to be safe, please keep it in a spot where thieves will not be able to find it should they break in (even with alarm systems, thieves may do a quick tour of your home...) so please be careful where you leave the jewelry. Local law enforcement may be able to provide you with some guidance as to where thieves look first, where they are not likely to go, etc.

I knew a couple who wasn't able to wear their rings because of safety at their jobs, so they had tattoos under them.
