So I self catered my wedding and 10 people got food poisoning! Just kidding, the wedding was held at and catered by a very reputable 4 star hotel. Has anyone heard of something similar happen? If so, do you know how/if it was resolved. I'm heart broken. We had an amazing wedding and everything was...

I'm heart broken. We had an amazing wedding and everything was beautiful and then we find out all these people got sick including our selves. I must add, we didn't get as sick as others. We had guests that ended up in the hospital and missed work. I feel humiliated and so badly for our guests that got sick. The hotel has opened up an investigation and we have spoken to their insurance company. I guess I'm here because I'm curious to see if this has happened to anyone else or if anyone has any experience with a situation like this.

Yes, Centerpiece, they will be reimbursed for all costs associated with this by the hotels insurance company (if everything goes well). What upsets me is that some had to use PTO or sick time for this. For me, PTO is worth more than money.

I have to say, I kind of agree with you. The cost of the food is less than a third of what we paid the hotel. It definitely a chunk of change, but I think they should have offered more. I still don't feel like the money we spent was "money well spent". I'm so humiliated by this, we worked so hard on this wedding. I dedicated my entire all my time and not to mention our hard earned money.

If I wanted to, I could probably take it further and get more money, but I'm too emotionally exhausted by this already. We will be taking the easy way out.

Just a note about what Cheyenne said. I know that it was a joke, but imagine having no insurance to cover the cost of your guests illnesses. That would be the case at a self-catered wedding.

When we say that people really DO get sick at weddings, we mean it.

I'm casting no shade at OP because she used a hotel. It can happen in the best of circumstances.

Don't sign anything without consulting an attorney.

This stinks! On the bright (less dark?) side, you did everything you personally could have done to insure that this wouldn't happen. You hired the professionals and let them do their job. As hard it can be to not feel at fault, you truly are not and there isn't anything (logical) that you could have done to prevent this.
