So I self catered my wedding and 10 people got food poisoning! Just kidding, the wedding was held at and catered by a very reputable 4 star hotel. Has anyone heard of something similar happen? If so, do you know how/if it was resolved. I'm heart broken. We had an amazing wedding and everything was...

I'm heart broken. We had an amazing wedding and everything was beautiful and then we find out all these people got sick including our selves. I must add, we didn't get as sick as others. We had guests that ended up in the hospital and missed work. I feel humiliated and so badly for our guests that got sick. The hotel has opened up an investigation and we have spoken to their insurance company. I guess I'm here because I'm curious to see if this has happened to anyone else or if anyone has any experience with a situation like this.

I'm so sorry to hear this! Reporting it to the state or local health department was definitely the right thing for your friend to do from a public health point of view. I'd try not to be offended by that. It does suck that he bothered you guys on your honeymoon though Smiley sad.

Sorry to hear this happened to you. I agree that you should be compensated for it after the investigation is over as well as the other guests that got sick.

Have they offered anything to you two for the inconvenience and terrible memories associated with your wedding? I personally would be pretty demanding. I would want a refund for the catering and I would leave negative reviews (after the refund is given). I hope the health department investigation sheds some light on the situation.

I have gotten sick from a wedding, but it was from homemade mini cheesecakes that sat out for way too long. The majority of our friends got sick, but we never told the bride or groom because we didn't want them to feel bad.

    That sucks!! Bad!

    I'm so sorry!

I agree... Keep after them! Even if you don't get a refund, then at least so it doesn't happen again.

This happened to my cousin. It ended up one of the waiters had the norovirus and it spread like wildfire! At least 1/2 the guest got sick including her hubby who missed out on the first few days of their honeymoon because of it Smiley sad

The state health department got involved and everyone that attended was asked to fill out a survey asking questions about what you ate. They ended up getting a full refund. I think one or two guests ended up in the hospital.

If they give you a full refund don't continue to complain. If you do get a refund I would say something in the review about what happened and how they handled it. They didn't do it on purpose and yes, it sucks, but it happens. I've gotten full-blown food poisoning one time, I was sick for a week. I have gotten sick from food several times, differing in severity, but I wouldn't burn a place to the ground with bad reviews just because of that. If they remedy the situation to your satisfaction taking the refund and then bitching even more on their reviews would just be... Bitchy. It'll get better... And eventually you'll remember the good instead of the food poisoning. Good luck, keep us posted.

I got food poisoning at a wedding. But there were extenuating circumstances. It was the second-biggest blizzard in D.C. history, and everyone went straight to the hotel after the wedding, including the caterer, for fear of getting trapped at the reception venue, so we ate there in the hotel lobby seating area! There was a mix of hot and cold small dishes (it was an afternoon wedding). About a third of the group, including the groom, got violently ill the next day. I don't hold it against anyone.

That is a nightmare! A few people got sick after my friends rehearsal dinner. Poor girl was green on her wedding day. No one was hospitalized though so I don't think they said anything to the restaurant. Yours sounds way more drastic.

If I were you, I'd probably talk with an attorney before talking with them much further.

Was your whole wedding catered or did you let somebody make food for the guests? I'm sorry this happened to you but it may not be the caters fault if you were careless and let other people bring food or made your own food favors and let them sit out. I wouldn't talk to an attorney before you have tried to resolve this with the cater

That's awful! I'm so sorry to hear this! Also, not really cool that a friend of your DH badgered you on your honeymoon to make you feel awful about it - this was definitely beyond your control and not your fault. I hope that the caterer makes it up to you.

Maybe if you do get compensated from the caterer send the guests who got ill a "sorry about the food poisoning" message with a little gift or something - I dunno. Or treat them to meal at a restaurant to apologize. It's not necessary but it might be nice.

That's just awful... I am so sorry this happened!!!!

My FMIL went to a wedding years ago where more than half the guests got food poisoning (luckily not her!). The venue wound up giving ALL their money back for the food. Which was what your venue should do, you're paying for a level of service that you did not receive!

GET A REFUND! That is absolutely unacceptable! As a caterer, it is their job to make sure the food is cooked and served properly. FH works for a caterer, so we know all of the rules and guidelines. They obviously were not following them. Otherwise, there's no reason for the food to have been bad!

And it might have been annoying, but your FH's friend definitely made the right call by notifying the state. This needs to be investigated. I also agree that you might want to get an attorney, but only if your venue starts to be uncooperative. Otherwise it's an unnecessary expense.

But like I said, you should 100% get a refund for this! It's inexcusable. It's their job to make sure that the food is cooked and served properly.

Oh wawww I never think this could happen to someone who don't have a potluck wedding though... I'm so sorry to hear that hopefully the guest don't remember it for the next 10 years.

    I'm scared now.
