I'm heart broken. We had an amazing wedding and everything was beautiful and then we find out all these people got sick including our selves. I must add, we didn't get as sick as others. We had guests that ended up in the hospital and missed work. I feel humiliated and so badly for our guests that got sick. The hotel has opened up an investigation and we have spoken to their insurance company. I guess I'm here because I'm curious to see if this has happened to anyone else or if anyone has any experience with a situation like this.

I forgot to include the most important part of my story - even though things went totally awry, I remember that wedding really fondly. In fact, it's one of the most fun ones I've been to, because we all got to hang out in those unusual circumstances. And the ceremony was so beautiful I'm modeling my own ceremony after it. So, please don't worry that this is the main thing people will remember about your wedding - it definitely isn't!

So sorry that happened! This is my worst nightmare. No wait, the worst would be getting food poisoning at the RD. Food poisoning is a hugeeee fear of mine.

Hotel catering has a bad rap...I think it's pretty common, I went to a wedding reception at a hotel and a lot of people got sick. Luckily I didn't eat the thing that made people sick. I think they just left the food out too long or something prior to serving it.

I believe you are suppose to your local health department and report it so they can follow up - I'd also ask for a refund..

I'm so so sorry you and your guests have had to go through this. I agree with others. I'd go after that caterer for a refund.

Ugh! I hope you get compensated, though I imagine it could be hard to prove who was at fault.

Like Kelly M. said I'm sure it was a beautiful wedding and that your guests will remember the fun they had!

UPDATE! Thank you all for the kind words. I hope this doesn't happen at any of your weddings. The hotel has offered us our money back for the food and we are going to accept it. I think it's fair, they can't give us our wedding day back, but some money would make me feel a little better about the situation. At least I will not have paid for the food that made my guests sick.

@Kelly Thank you for sharing your story, you are very kind. I truly hope this is the way our guests will feel in the end, it's just so hard for me to see now.

@Mary - ALL food and beverage was provided by the hotel. We weren't allowed to bring anything edible per hotel policy.

ETA All the guests who got sick have cases open with the hotels insurance company, so they will be compensated for missed work and medical bills (if applicable)

That's great news that they are giving you your money back. It doesn't make anyone's poor stomachs feel better but at least they are acknowledging that it's their fault it happened. So sorry you are dealing with this!!

I'm lucky my Aunt does a lot of business with this hotel, so it's in their best interest to resolve this quickly and without drama. She also took the lead on talking to them and negotiating on our behalf. I'm way to emotional about it to handle it right now, so it's a big help. Plus, she's a master negotiator and has no shame.

@Kristy. I can't believe it either! This is what was served:

hors d'oeuvres: buffalo chicken on a stick, chicken eggroll things and cheese and fruit

dinner: wedge salad, risotto, veggies, quesadillas (plain, shrimp, chicken) and turkey (this is who I'm suspecting is the culprit) It was a carving station type turkey.

UGH! So crazy!!! I feel like it would be in their best interest to resolve no matter what as if this got out brides would be VERY hesitant to book their services!!!!

Hope everyone that got sick is doing ok!!!!!

Yes, everyone who got sick it feeling much better, thankfully Smiley smile

You're right, it could be terrible damaging to their reputation. I don't feel the need to get the word out though. I know they are trying really hard to figure out what went wrong. I just hope it doesn't happen to anyone else. I'm happy they seem to take some responsibility for it.

I'd also ask for the co-pays for all of your guests who required ER visits, doctor visits, lost time from work, and medications.

You truly suffered. I am the last person to jump on the "refund after the fact" bandwagon. Nine times out of ten, it's BS. Your case? Your case is as legitimate as it could be. Actually, I think you're entitled to more than the cost you paid for the venue/food; I think you're entitled to damages. People don't forget the wedding that gave them food poisoning, and that is so damn unfair to two decent, hardworking, honorable people

I'm glad you're getting a refund, but I really wish you were getting more.
