First dance songs and not dancing with dad - I need ideas

GrayCatVintage, on April 30, 2015 at 11:06 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

I have absolutely no idea what our first dance song will be. FH and I do not have a "song" and I am scrambling to pick something out. I know it will be the 2015 cliché but I do like Ed Sheeran's Thinking out Loud but I know it will be almost every bride's first dance song this year.

I do know that FH and his mom want to dance to a specific retro song but I will not be dancing with my father since he is not in the picture. My mom is walking me down the aisle so I guess FH and I will dance then he can dance with his mom. I assume that will be it for "couples" dances. I thought about doing a dance with my brother but he didn't want to do it. What is your first dance song going to be?

Mean to Me by Brett Eldredge. Naturally when we picked it it was before it started playing on the radio every day, but i really like it. Similar to Ed Sheeran in the lyrics, maybe listen to that? It's also not super country sounding

Here For You by Ozzy Osbourne.

I was planning on dancing with my dad to Changes by Kelly & Ozzy Osbourne but my dad passed away last year. I wasn't planning on doing a dance but my sister (MOH) suggested we do a dance in his memory. So we're dancing to Dance With My Father Again by Luther Vandross.

I'm part of the 2015 cliché so I won't be much help. I wish I'd known how popular and overplayed it was when I picked it, now I love it too much to change my mind.

We're dancing to "Video Games" by Lana Del Rey. It holds significance for us.

Are there any songs that remind you of your FH or a song that may remind him of you?

Honestly it's your wedding who cares if you're being 2015 cliché. It's a nice song

Ruth-- oh my gosh-- there isn't going to be a dry eye in the place!! Smiley sad I'm sorry about your Dad-- I lost mine during planning also.

For our first dance, we chose the theme to Twin Peaks-- we also didn't have a "song", but we have a "show", and that is it Smiley tongue Is there any movie or show that they two of you like that means something to you and has a song that would work?? Video game??

If you like that song why not use it, does your FH like it? What we did was listened to several songs together and when we found our song we both just looked at each other and said this is it. As much as we like the popular songs we wanted something unique so we ended up choosing Ritchie Valens "We Belong Together" the original version. Smiley smile

You could dance with your mom if you are looking for something to do in place of the father/daughter dance. Or you and FH can both dance with moms to the same song and share the moment. We are doing Brantley Gilbert "My Kind of Crazy" for our first dance. We didn't really have a special song either, but that one seems perfect for us and kind of fun. Best of luck!
