Fireworks at a wedding in Bali?

last, on May 2, 2014 at 10:52 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

Hi everyone.

We're hoping to have fireworks at our wedding in a villa in a clifftop in Uluwatu but on top of paying for the fireworks and the police fees (which amount to IDR 14 million or about USD$1,400), the villa is also asking for IDR 10 million or USD$1,000, saying it's a fee for the permitting of fireworks there.

I've always dreamed of having fireworks at my wedding but I never thought it would be that expensive. People say that marriage is once in a lifetime. In your opinion, is it worth paying that much for fireworks? Are they usually really spectacular? Enough for us to fork out that much?

Thanks everyone!

I agree with King. Fireworks are so expensive.

We are considering them for ours and the only way we would be able to afford it is through my cousin. He runs a firework business during the summer and gets crazy cheap prices on them. Also our venue has the perfect place to light them off. It's just a matter of pulling permits.

If you can afford it do it!

Actually we can afford it, but when you hear that an employee here gets an average salary of USD$200 a month, kinda puts things in perspective, you know? I can't help but feel like I'm being ripped off.

I'll definitely consider it though. *hugs to all*

Sounds like a good deal! We're actually having our wedding near Sea World (an amusement park essentially) and they have a firework show every night in the summer so we'll get a free show. But I think fireworks at a wedding are awesome. If you've always dreamed of it, go for it!

You're definitely being ripped off. The price quoted would be directly correlated to the quality of you accommodation and how much they think you will pay. Are you a local? The tourist price is always a premium. I've never seen a police presence at any fireworks displays in Bali! In saying that, it's not a bad price and you'll probably get a lot of fireworks.

Well I don't know about Bali, but we have the option for fireworks at our wedding in the states and it would cost us about $7500 USD and it seems like it's only one package to choose from. They said the cost is so high because of the permits they need for it.

At first FH and I were all for it, now we are starting to reconsider. That's a lot of money that we could put towards something else, like the honeymoon, or just save. It was one of the things I loved most about my venue though so it's a hard decision.

It sounds like you are getting a good deal, but definitely do your research and try asking some locals/people around about it.

    Hi!

Most villas actually do not permit fireworks / fire performances within the compounds. If they do permit it, it is likely that you are required to pay a banjar fee (to the local village community). It sounds to me that the amount you were asked to pay seems a tad too high ; /

Did you engage a wedding planner or wedding coordinator for your wedding? They should be able to negotiate with the banjar, and to source for fireworks at a lower price in Bali.

    Hope this helps!
