Faux Wedding Cake!!!! SSSSHHHH!

Terri, on October 13, 2017 at 6:38 PM Posted in Style and Décor 4 214

A few weeks ago someone made a post in the forum about possibly getting a faux wedding cake. I had never thought of that before. So a quick Etsy search I found a ton of them. The vendor was awesome to work with and their prices are very reasonable! I sent her a description of the cake I wanted and in less than five minutes she sketched it out and e-mailed it for my approval. It was absolutely perfect! She sent me a picture of the finished product before she shipped it out tomorrow. Her customer service skills are FANTASTIC!

But when you serve the guests the sheet cake, it will have to look like the fake cake won’t it?

Pretty! I have to say that I was a little disappointed when I realized my small wedding meant I'd only get a simple 2-tier cake

How much did the fake cake cost you?

Why the fake cake when the cake they get to eat will look different?

So I had to see how much this faux cake would cost. For $200-$400 why not just buy a real cake?

As a guest I'd be so disappointed I couldn't eat a piece of that cake lol. I never understood the point of faux cake...why not just order a real tiered one?

Well to address the "whys" first - the cake I wanted was going to cost over $800! While this cake cost me a grand total of $165. She placed a cut out slice for us to put a real slice of cake into so we can have our cake cutting picture. The guests will be served a very economically priced but very tasty sheet cake that will cost us about $30. So paying $195 compared to $800 works for me! As for the sheet cake having to be the same. It will be cream colored icing which is at least the same color as 2 large tiers of the cake. And, honestly that wasn't a big deal to us.

Is it a small cake to "show off" i may be the only one, but i don't understand this trend?

Do you take the fake cake to the back before serving the guests sheet cake? As a guest, it would be weird to see the fake cake still sitting on the cake table, knowing it's not being served, but cake magically appears.

Huh, I had only heard of making a real cake look larger by having a couple of fake layers in there that are decorated with icing just like the real layers.

Our baker is making 2 of 3 of our tiers fake. We did it so we could still have the cute wedding cake but it was way cheaper. The 1 real tier costs more than the 2 fake ones. We are serving sheet cake and the sheet cake doesn't have to match the display cake.

Ladies we are all either wives already, or brides to be. We all have different priorities, budgets, decor tastes etc. faux cake may not be for you. It works perfectly for me, my budget, and where i chose to allocate my dollars. I can assure you my guests will not be focused on whether the cake they are eating is the same as the cake we cut.

    What...

Well it's nice but I, too, wanted to save money so I did separate tiers, $100 for all 3 tiers plus I get sugar flowers that I wanted. And no lies.

I'm just curious - what are you planning on doing with this after the wedding? Keep it or store it? Sell it? Everyone I know who has done sheet cakes just gets a really small (real) wedding cake for pictures and serves sheet cake to guests.
