A few weeks ago someone made a post in the forum about possibly getting a faux wedding cake. I had never thought of that before. So a quick Etsy search I found a ton of them. The vendor was awesome to work with and their prices are very reasonable! I sent her a description of the cake I wanted and in less than five minutes she sketched it out and e-mailed it for my approval. It was absolutely perfect! She sent me a picture of the finished product before she shipped it out tomorrow. Her customer service skills are FANTASTIC!

People have used faux cakes for decades. I don't get the pearl clutching.

@Rachel - First off I never said I didn't care about my guests! If that's the message you heard - I don't know what to tell you.

And if you're going to weddings with the expectation that the happy couple should have made sure that YOU were the priority in their planning - then who are you really there for? You get invited to weddings by the couple to celebrate them.

It's a cake ffs. The comments saying it's "dishonest" or "your decieving your guests" are just silly.

People pay hundreds to get professional makeup put on (why not just show your natural face?) People spend money on underwear to suck their stomachs in. Isn't that also "deceiving"...

Who cares!? We all want to look our best and have pretty things in our wedding and nice pictures.

Op is sharing her cake, it's her wedding and all the silly "it's rude" comments are just as rude.

I know for a fact NO ONE at my wedding would give a shit if the cake was fake. Bc I don't know anyone petty like that either. Smh

Yup. Went to a friends wedding who did this and I, nor anyone else, had ANY IDEA! I'm stealing the idea myself. Great plan and your cake looks fab!

@FutureMrsJ - I didn't do any of the things that you mentioned because - I didn't want to. You are right I wanted the aesthetic of a BEAUTIFUL cake but I didn't want to break the bank for it by paying $800 for it. We chose to take that money along with a great deal of our budget to give our guests amazing food for dinner, unlimited assortment of hors d'oeuvres, an open bar, gorgeous tables decked out in beautiful flowers/decor, an awesome DJ and an emcee, dance floor lighting, uplights, gobos, state of the art photo booth, etc. - all to ensure that they had the best time EVER while helping us celebrate our best day EVER. Now if after ALL of that somebody leaves there talking about the doggone cake - then they shouldn't have been on the list to begin with. Which is precisely why we could have easily invited 300 people to our wedding but we stuck with the 125 people we knew beyond a shadow of a doubt would be there for the right reason - to celebrate us. The people we know who would be more concerned about how the food tasted, the wine wasn't chilled enough, complaining about their seating, questioning why the cake they received doesn't look like the one they were served, etc. were left off of the guest list.

FutureMrs_J, sorry but my wedding is pretty well closed off to those who think a wedding is all about the guests. I mean, I'm going to have a great wedding and I suppose it'll be hosted rather well but that's because it's what we want not because we feel at all obligated to do what other people expect. Great food, full bar with a large variety, heck we're even paying for the accommodations for the wedding party if they choose to take us up on the offer. But it's not about anything but what the two of us want that day. It's our day, things will be the way we want.

Everyone complaining about the dam cake, just let it gooooo. If you don't get it then oh well. She was obviously sharing to show her excitement and love for the design as well as praising the vendor. Honestly there's way bigger problems then worrying about what kind of cake your eating. To the OP I think it looks beautiful. Plus you got what you wanted without spending more money which is great. Smiley smile

This is a great idea to save money. Honestly there is no problem with this at all as long as your guests will get cake. This cake is beautiful! Smiley smile

Don't really see why anyone is getting up in arms over a fucking cake. A cake .... lololol.

OP, this is actually an extremely common thing so you're not the first person, and probably won't be the last, to do this. I have no qualms about eating a regular cake and never once did I ever question why my cake looked different on my plate versus the cake on the table. My FSIL worked at a very well known venue near my area (Long Island, NY) and said this is more common than people would think. I see absolutely nothing wrong with this and think that your mock cake is absolutely beautiful.

ETA: I am, however, on team "the wedding isn't just about you and your FS" .. because it's not.

"It's my wedding and I'll do what I want to" is not a 'new' concept....it's just dragged out to justify all kinds of ideas that should never even be floated....

Wait, is that supermarket vodka decanted into a Grey Goose bottle?

Eh no one will care. They love us enough.

I mean, I feel like cake is cake is cake. If people get genuinely upset that they're being served sheet cake and that you have a prop cake, they have bigger issues they need to address in their own lives. I've been to MANY weddings-including 2 that had fake cakes (which I'm all for. Save that money!) and when reflecting back on the wedding, I've never heard one person complain about the cake. To make a big deal about something so minor is, well, pathetic. I've never heard of CAKE making or breaking a wedding for a guest...

How many guests are you inviting?

The reason I ask is that, in my city a $30 cake will feed, perhaps 8 people.

By the way, I have no issue with the use if a faux cake. Other than the fact that you are spending money on something that will be used once. There are actually companies that rent faux cakes. Although I would rather put that dough (no pun intended) in to a real cake. Mmm, cake.

Oh oh, attacking Celia and making snarky remarks to her, not cool. Celia has been to more weddings than most of us combined.

@Kathy R. I don't believe I attacked Celia or anyone else. Celia offered a snarky remark and I replied in kind Honestly if you read thru this thread --- Celia can handle her own.

This is still going on? Geez I think I've now seen it all on WW. It's weird how when I said I was doing a bday sized cake with 8" and 5" tiers and then sheet cake to serve there was no issue. In fact, it's often suggested to people. But suddenly now there's an issue with sheet cake. I just don't get the hypocrisy around here sometimes.

@Terri, trust me, I know that Celia can "handle her own". That doesn't mean that your comment wasn't snarky.

Now, to my other point, that you must not have read...how many guests have you invited? A $30 cake of them seems way out of line. $30 here means a small cake for 8 people.
