Fake Wedding Cake

We are serving multiple small cakes, but are also having a small wedding (45 people). Due to this, and the costs of cakes, it’s too expensive to have a large wedding cake...
Yet I’ve always loved them! I’ve looked at renting cake wedding cakes, but they also cost hundreds. Found out I could make my own for about $120. This would allow us to still serve the multiple cakes and also have a large fake cake for the photos.
Has anyone else ever thought about a fake cake? Made one? Seen one?

We’re having a 3 tier wedding cake. The top 2 tiers will be fake and only cost $35 per fake tier. This way we can still cut the bottom, real cake. Well have a cheaper sheet cake in the back for them to serve everyone and no one will have any idea the top 2 tiers of our cake are fake. Total cost for the 3 tiers and sheet cake will only be $250! Not too bad!

We’re planning on having a “fake” chandelier cake. And getting a couple sheet cakes to serve. We’ll also get a couple different flavors and probably have other desserts too.

I haven't heard of this, but I think making the bottom tier real, middle tiers fake, and the top tier real so you can cut into it/save it would ne a great way to have a huge cake but save money

Hey Jazmine! I have also heard of couples having the bottom tier of the cake real for the cutting, and the top tiers fake. It is a great way to cut costs if you're happy to have a partially fake cake Do you think you will proceed with this?
