Estimated vs Actual Guest Count

ShanynL, on August 21, 2017 at 11:34 AM Posted in Planning 0 63

I had originally invited 220 people the wedding. I knew there would be a few that wouldn't make it due to travel expenses (living halfway across the world), which I expected. What I didn't expect was only having a final guest count of 113. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to save some money, but I can't believe my count was so off. Did anyone else have this problem?

That's what I'm wondering... I am inviting 150, and wonder how many will actually show

I hope that's not the case for me.. we're inviting around 220 and have a 175 person minimum we have to meet for our room.

I invited 140 and only 78 RSVP'd yes. I have a minimum to meet and will have to pay the difference (22 people at half price). My sister had a DW and just about everyone invited came. It does happen both ways.

My first wedding I invited about 150 and maybe 75 showed up. Even though i had a little over 100 rsvp. What sucked the most is they didn't bother to give me a heads up they couldn't make it as originally planned.

I have been told that only about %80 of people will actually show. I'm inviting 150, but only expecting around 130

We invited 174 but we are guessing 140 will show. We only got 4 declines so far.

I invited 160-something people, and my final head count is 86.

We had to give guaranteed amount of guests to our venue, and we undercut the number of people we are inviting.

We guaranteed 100 and planning on inviting 130. We don't get any penalty for being over our guarantee, but if we come in under our guarantee we have to pay half the price for each plate under. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed we'r closer to 100 than 130.

We invited 250 and had 222 guests. I think it probably has a lot to do with the travel factor, as most of our guests were local-ish.

Did you give all single people plus one's? If so, maybe that's part of why the number is so much lower if not everyone is bringing a plus one. Also if everyone has to travel I think that makes sense. I won't have my final count for 3-ish more weeks so I can't give a comparison but I invited around the same amount.

This happened to my SIL. Family members skipped her wedding for a golf tournament. Those of us who went were sad for her, but those of us who attended made sure to shower her with so much love that it didn't matter that she had fewer people. The venue did a great job of setting up the space too so it didn't feel empty at all

We have a lot of OOT guests, so 210 of our 270 invited are coming.

Mine was way off too but I was kinda expecting that because we invited a lot of more distant family that I never expected to go. I invited a total of 120 and final count is 83.

We also had a lot of OOT guests, but our declines were about equally split between people who were local and people who were OOT. We invited 207 and 98 came.

@Colleen, and what if 281 CAN make it? Why did you over invite?

My decline rate was average for the U.S., (190 invite, 150 RSVP'd) and I got married on a Thursday night. We made sure to invite only those who were were close to/had spoken to in the last several months. We did not invite random people, coworkers, or distant family members.

@Colleen - why in the hell would you invite more than your venue can hold???
