Engraving or Inscribing wedding bands?

blah, on November 24, 2011 at 6:51 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

Okay, so I keep seeing things that talk about getting the bands engraved...which I havent and I was wondering is this something that is traditionally done or simply an option. How many of you have done this and what did you inscribe on the ring?

Anyone know how long it can be? I would like to do this.... are you doing it as a surprise or telling each other about it, planning it together?

When me and my FH were teenagers he gave me a promise ring that was engraved that simply said "I Love You". I constantly found myself staring at that saying just smiling to myself from how something so simple could make me so happy.

I hope we will be getting our bands engraved however my FH can't wear his ring to work so he will be getting either a band, my name, or the date tattooed on his ring finger so i suppose my ring will have the same engraved on it. I would definatly suggest getting it done because it brought me happiness for years

We didn't have ours engraved. NotFroofy inherited the one I now wear from her grandmother. I felt like engraving our information on it would be minimizing its history.

We did have his engraved already. Just our names and date. Mine we have talked about engraving the outside of it with the date and our initials but I don't know about this or sure yet. We are waiting until the weeks before to do mine because we are going to have them put together then too.

We want to. We've been looking at Irish Gaelic phrases. So far the leading one is "Love,Loyalty,Friendship", because my e-ring is a Claddagh and that's what it stands for. The bands may end up having a Claddagh design as well, so it would be fitting.

Haha by the time my ring was stretched (it was a family ring) enough to fit my big fingers, its too thin to engrave. =P

I engraved Seriously 4.9.11 on DH's band. Sure its from Grey's Anatomy - but he watches it with me and totally gets it. =D

We're huge nerds, we've joked about having mine engraved in elvish and his in Klingon, I'm a huge Lord of the Rings nerd and he's big into Star Trek, when we were teenagers, we both tried to learn those languages. But I have no clue how to get my ring engraved in elvish or if it's even possible.

I love that Morgan M. Wish I would have thought of that.

We always tell each other we love each other each night before bed, and every time we speak on the phone, no matter what the phone call is for or who is around. I always say "I love you" first and then he says "I love you too"....So his band says "I love you" and mine says "I love you too".

Just something special between the two of us.

Engravings usually can't be too long. Definitely not whole sentences, just a few word phrase at the most. Our engravings were done free when we purchased our rings. Cost may depend on what you want done but I am not sure.

I too favor the idea of having a tattoo on our ring fingers because if you loose your ring or forget it one morning, at least you still have your "ring" or a symbol of being married.

I guess it is not traditional....It is just an option......If you like you can engrave whatever you want on the wedding band.....And I guess lots of couples now a days are doing it.....I am also doing.....I engraved my FI ring with

“A ma vie de coer entier “

    Meaning....

“You have my whole heart for my whole life”

I'm having his engraved with "Forever and ever. Amen." - it's something we've always said. I'm going to surprise him with it!

We have been married for almost 10 years. We did not get ours inscribed, but I am thinking of inscribing his for our 10th anniversary, or maybe even before. I want it to say "You are my better half". Throughout the years we have had our ups and down and tensions are tight right now and has caused us both to make changes within ourselves, and if our love can conquer this one, I want him to know that he is the reason I have chosen to make this change and that he is true the better half of me.
