Engagement Pictures: Overrated or Underrated?

I LOVED my engagement photos! It gave us a chance to get used to be in front of the camera, try out a makeup artist I then booked for the wedding, and was the perfect test run to make sure that we really liked the photographer before the wedding day. My FH also told me he was glad we had the chance to "practice being on camera" because he hates taking pictures or being the center of attention.

Since then I've used the pictures for our Save the Dates and even had one blown up and printed for our first place.

I see a lot more photographers trying to get away from that, but maybe that’s because I’m in CO and it’s just more common for people to go hiking/skiing/snow shoeing/rock climbing/etc for engagement pictures.

Underrated. I can't wait to get ours done! We will be getting them done in the fall!

Overrated and too contrived looking, although we are doing them (reluctantly) as they are included in our photography package.

I think to have them done professionally done is overrated. Nice to have, but find a friend that's good with a camera to take a few for save the dates.

I think overrated for us. We were suppose to do these however it became stressful trying to find a time that FH and myself could get off together and get into town to meet with the photographer. We have tons of pictures we love of each other

Underrated! We are definitely doing this, hands down. Fun to look back on, especially as you get ready for your wedding day!

At first I thought they're overrated, especially because we don't have money. But I changed my mind because we don't have many pictures together so I asked my sister to take photos of us with poses we found on Pinterest. I edited them myself and Voila! free engagement photos lol

Underrated. I am so glad we did engagement pictures. We had a blast! I didn't really consider it an option. Photography was the first thing we decided on.

Underrated! They were so much fun, and we did them in December when it was 10 degrees outside and windy. I just wish we could've had a nicer day and more time for them.

Underrated. We almost didn't do one. SMH. We are getting them to next week. Better late than never with 130 days to go. Needed for many reasons. 1. Meet and get comfy with our photographer 2. Get comfy taking pics and being in front of the camera FH is camera shy. 3. Why not take photo to celebrate this time before marriage and document it. We will be displaying at our wedding and our website.

This is overrated

Underrated, but I'm so excited to do mine. I just ordered my dress for it!

Underrated! Not only am I obsessed with our engagement photos, we had SO much fun taking them!!!

Hard to give an answer on this one. I think the pics themselves can be great, but some of the crazy photo shoots and props are overrated.

Underrated. I think it’s a great opportunity for your photographer to get to know the two of you, and you to see their work before the big day. I didn’t do them because it was an extra expense. I plan to take professional photos on our next trip to Pigeon Forge after our wedding. That’s where we got engaged and I would love to have pictures done there.

These are neutral for me. It's an excuse to get your pictures taken and to use on your invitations. They're really really common so it's not underrated, but they're not pointless, so they're not overrated.
