    I wish we had one but shortly after we were engaged we got pregnant (on purpose) then had a falling out with his side so it never came to be

    Nice to have. I would say we kind of had one since the day we got engaged all our family was there and FH had dinner and music planned for after he asked the big question.

    It's nice to have but not necessary. We actually didn't have one because it just felt like something else to plan and spend money on.

    I'm of the mindset it's nice to have. I've never truly understood engagement parties. Pretty much everyone knows you're engaged as soon as it happens nowadays. An engagement party would be nice to celebrate with everyone, but it doesn't seem necessary to me. It was just an additional expense on my list so we didn't have one. But if you can afford it and you'll have a longer engagement, it's a fun thing to do!

    Completely not needed. if you are still expecting a bachelorette party and bridal show and you want an engagement party too? Pretty greedy. People are already shelling out a lot for your wedding. I guess it would be fine if you were rich and had unlimited money and your friends and family were as well...

    Nice to have, but over excessive. Then they want a bridal shower, bachelorette party, bachelor party -- my goodness. I'll see them at the wedding and or ONE party before.
