Drivers license number change after the wedding??

Mrs., on January 15, 2012 at 12:17 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 9

In michigan our drivers license number always begins with a letter, the first letter of your last name. Mine was F before I got married so I assumed it would change to D after I got married and changed my last name....well it did not change. Is this normal? Anyone know?

Ours is the same way in FL. Its the first letter of your last name followed by a bunch of numbers. When I got married the first time it changed from D to H, and after the divorce it went back to D because I had my name changed back to my maiden name. I wouldn't worry about it as long as your name is correct on the license.

Allison, did you know that the 2-digit number in the middle should be the year you were born?

I just assumed the letter would change. I would not have even noticed it except I was filling out an application for a new job and it asked for the number. Yes my name is right on it so I am not worried!

You changed your name, but you did not change your record. You are still the same driver- so your number should remain the same.

I live in MI too! Back when my parents got married in 1977, the first letter in your DL number did change when you changed your name. It doesn't anymore. Mine didn't change, and neither did anyone I know who has gotten married recently. I don't know exactly when they stopped doing it, but it must have been a while ago.

I could be wrong, but I swear when I got married the 1st time, my DL changed from J to W to match my married name-- but I swear I thought the first 3 numbers changed too, and I could've sworn they changed to my new hubby's first 3 digits of his ss#! I'm probably crazy, but that's been in my head for 20 years! PLUS, I'm the creep side of this, my ex has a copy of my DL so he knows when I get tickets or anything like that, plus he can access info I'd rather him not access! We've been divorced over 10 years and he's still like, media stalking me! Its so creepy but how can I change that info? Even if I change it to my maiden name I'm sure he'll figure that out, he literally had a FILE on me that includes: copies of DL, SS card, he even took my credit file I got from Equifax in my mid 20s because I wanted to pay off some debts-- he also has similar info from my sisters, my daughter who is 23, my friends and my work places. Maybe read this before you get married! Lol! I have STORIES and ADVICE! LOL

I would wonder if you could file a sort of identity theft with regards to that, in order to get everything changed, because yes that’s creepy scary if you think about what he could do with that information. Keeping tabs is creepy enough, but he could legit steal your identity and open up all sorts of crazy accounts, especially with so much going digital, they don’t necessarily look for photo proof, just ask different questions, which someone who was close to you could know the answers to.

Mine did. Not change either , as I thought it would also ! So I’m assuming it’s normal I thought they may have made a mistake and overlooked it but I don’t know now that hearing someone else has the same thing .
