Drink Voucher...

Brandi ♥'s Chris, on March 2, 2011 at 4:46 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 26

Ok, so after speaking to the bartender that we have decided to hire, we have decided to have drink vouchers, but only for the mixed drinks. Everyone will get two, and then there will be unlimited champagne and beer. So, my question is, do I send them out with the invites or do I send them after the RSVP's come in that way I know who to send them to??? Thanks

I would send them out after the RSVP's.

Thanks. That sounds better to me than printing however many for each invite and then paying extra postage as well, especially for large families. Every invite would be a different weight. So then I guess my next question is, do I mail them, or should they recieve them at the reception?

I think at the reception would be easier. It's too easy as a guest to lose or forget to bring a drink voucher between the mailing and actual event.

I second having them at the reception... with their seating card or at the table with the favor. I would forget it, and them be bummed.

Just noticed it said 2 mixed drinks... how is the bar tender gonna track that? Putting a line through black paper will be hard.... I guess he will need to tear it in half and hand it back? if they don't order two at once?

What is the plan for making those? vistaprint Free business card might be a good way to go.

I think having them sitting at the tables or with their seat cards at the reception would be better, if you send them out with the RSVPs people are likely to forget their drink vouchers and then be upset that you dont have extras to hand out at the reception. Save the headache for everybody and have them waiting at the reception venue!! Cute idea tho! Ive never been to a reception with a drink voucher!

I like having them be at their seats at the reception. no one will remmebr to bring them if they are sent out before hand.

I agree with pp about distributing the vouchers at the reception, but I wouldn't have them on the tables. It would be too easy for someone to pick up vouchers from other tables and then you'll have guests complaining that they didn't get their vouchers. Attach them to the escort cards. I'd also recommend having a separate voucher for each mixed drink (2 per adult), it'll be easier for the bartender that way.

While you may want to cut down on cost of printing by having 2 mixed drinks on one ticket, as someone mentioned, it may be difficult for the bartender to keep track of it in that way. Perhaps give everyone 2 tickets so that it's as simple as handing the bartender your ticket. That's how it's done at all the conferences I go to. In addition, people swap/give away their tickets if they are not going to get a mixed drink. So be prepared for most if not all of those drinks to be served (we always have a colleague or 3 trolling for tix you don't want to use).

Oh, and yes give them out at the reception and I really like the design!

I was thinking of handing my vouchers our with the programs, since the guests will have a cocktail hour before they are seated in the main dining area.

Im doing little cut outs of margarita glasses and they will say "have one on us!" im putting them ontop of everyones plates. it'll be like a little card that opens upward so it'll be self standing too.

Thanks ladies for all of your input. I was actually thinking last night about having each say one drink and giving two. I do agree that it would be much easier for the bartender. And I'm going to take your advice and somehow attach them to the escort cards. That way when they pick up their card, they will have it and be ready to go.

@ Hayley, you read my mind. I'm going to print through vistaprint on the business cards. I will definately be changing it to one drink though. Thanks a bunch.

You can have someone at the door passing them out to people when they come in the reception which would be the easiest.

Brandi I think at the reception too, however I would have someone you trust be responsible for making sure that only guests over 21 receive them, kids look so old. I have an 18 year old who gets carded less than I do... Smiley smile

This is a great idea!! It never occured to me to do drink vouchers. This is a perfect way to handle the bar tab.

@Angie, our signature drink will be margarita... I might have to steal your idea. Smiley smile

@ Victoria, Our bartender is going to check ID every time someone comes up to get a drink, even if they have a voucher. No ID, no drink. Those are his rules because he told me that if someone underage gets caught drinking, not only are fh and I in trouble, but he would be fined as wel

Smart man... you may want to let your guests know so they can bring ID, I know when I go to weddings I usually leave my purse in the trunk or hotel room so I don't have to keep an eye on it.
