Hey guys.. So I have my first dress appointment this Saturday!! I have a dress that I am in love with, but I am having MAJOR anxiety about the dress looking horrible on me!! I have looked at every picture I can find of real brides in it, but I doubt any of them are my size. I am a size 12 in jeans...

Hey guys.. So I have my first dress appointment this Saturday!! I have a dress that I am in love with, but I am having MAJOR anxiety about the dress looking horrible on me!! I have looked at every picture I can find of real brides in it, but I doubt any of them are my size. I am a size 12 in jeans and in June when I tried on a bridesmaid dress I was a size 14 in the dress. I would love to see you in your size 14 dresses!! I'm having an incredibly difficult time trying to figure out if I'm going to look half decent in a dress or not. And I'm starting to freak out.

So if you're a street size 12 or if your wedding dress is a size 14, I would greatly appreciate it if you could post your dress for me!!

    Ignore the bra straps, lol!

I wear a 8-12 jean. (Why can't sizing be a fixed thing?) This dress is tagged as an 18.

But size is just a number. I didn't let it get to me.

Could I be healthier? Eat better and work out more? You bet!

But my FH fell in love with me like I am. So if I change anything, it's only going to be so I can live a longer, healthier life with him. Not because I need to fit into a number. You just gotta remember that and everything else isn't important. :-)

ETA: I loved looking at all of the beautiful dresses! We can be so silly sometimes worrying about flaws only we can see.

I typically wear a street size 10/12 and my wedding dress is a 14. Excuse the bra straps, my MOH was practicing lacing up the corset back so I wasn't in proper undergarments.

Wedding dresses are always small fitting. It's normall to have a size larger than street size.

I am a street size 8-10 depending on the manufacturer, but ordered my dress size 14 (same as the sample size) because of my CuRvEs. I felt AMAZING in my dress. Size is just a number.

OP I am trying to lose weight and because of my insecurities I opted not to look for dress right away and to buy off the rack closer to my wedding. I am now seriously doubting by decision. You will find a dress that will make you feel beautiful just the way you are!

You are going to be stunning! Don't let size discourage you while you are shopping and be open to trying all styles!!! I tried on so many dresses because I thought I wanted a mermaid style but my sister asked me to try on a ball gown and bam! It was the one. I was worried ball gowns should look funny because I'm super short so I refused to try one on at my first 3 appointments.

@Robyn your dress is GORGEOUS!! I'm thinking I'm too short for ball gowns as well.. So you saying that makes me optimistic!!!!

OP, I seriously don't think you were bashing. Bridal salons told me I was plus sized at 14. But, the thing is, I've been to plus sized salons and was told I was too small. It's difficult. I had such a hard time envisioning myself in a wedding gown because none of the models looked like me. As a size 14, I found this post empowering.

Mine before alterations! I'm usually a street 12/14 and because I have big boobs and a thick waist my dress is a side 20. I don't have any hips at all (size 8/10 on bottom) so fit and flares did not look good on me at all. So jealous of all the curvy ladies here in their form fitting dresses!

I had the same issue as Constance - not quite plus size but almost none of the samples at the boutique bridal salons came even close to fitting me correctly. That being said, I never had an appointment where I felt bad about my size or that my size was even an issue.

I'm normally a street 14-16 but ordered my dress in a 18W. I think it's too tight but the lady at the store says it fit perfectly. I'm thinking I will take it back and order a larger size. I don't want to count on losing the weight I need to lose since I've been trying for a couple of years.

    @Constance N.

I am SO happy that you found this post empowering!!!! I think everything in it has been very positive and uplifting and I am so happy to have received all of the replies it has!! All of these women taking time out of their day (you included) to help make me feel better about myself is truly amazing!!! And you said it perfectly. It's hard envisioning yourself in a gown because none of the models look like you or me. That's all I wanted was some help envisioning what I may look like.

LOL at this thread. Size 22 wedding dress here, (10-14 in dresses and pants) what the hell is with caring about the number? My size is giant compared to a lot of the posters on here but I feel beautiful so what of it?

I love this post!!! I agree that the sizes are so messed up. It's so nice to look through these pictures and just beautiful women in stunning dresses!! I get very self conscious and hard on myself and it's just a nice reminder. People will see happy you in a gorgeous dress and think nothing but that you look beautiful!

Thanks for the post OP. And to everyone for the amazing pictures.

I don't have one to add, I accidentally deleted them allSmiley sad

I'm a street size 6 or an 8 depending....and I also had to order a size 14 gown based on my measurements. Some areas are going to fit perfectly and some are going to have to be altered down but it is what it is. Size 14 is not a big deal! Don't even pay attention to the number. You'll look beautiful.

When I was picking out dresses to try on the girl at the boutique didn't mention sizes to me, we just grabbed ones I liked that were in my budget. I picked a dress and I still don't even know what size it is lol Don't think about size, just worry about feeling fabulous and loving the dress!
