Dress on hanger photo?

Nay, on September 26, 2013 at 4:40 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 44

I've been seeing a lot of wedding pics and videos and there always seems to be the dress on the hanger shot. I was talking to my photographer yesterday about the getting ready pics, and she mentioned the dress on the hanger. And I was thinking about it today and I'm not really sure I want to do have that shot. Is there some kind of meaning behind that particular shot? Not knocking anyone who is doing or has done it, just curious how this pic came to be.

I like that particular shot but I don't want the rings in my bouquet or the shoe shot.

I guess it's just to remember every detail.

I see the dress on the hanger pics as kind of a way to symbolize the day. There's an empty dress that's waiting to be worn by a woman about to make a beautiful commitment, or something like that. Possibly people do it because it's a thing now.

That being said, I won't be asking my photographer to take one because my dress looks like shit on a hanger.

I don't think there's any real meaning behind the picture, but I will be having that shot - I like the simplicity and purity of the shot when I've typically seen it. Plus, I'm having a customized hanger made with my new last name made, so it's on my "must have" photo shots list.

Btw, Nay - I always like your peaceful and cool approach in your postings - pre'ciate your energy!

No meaning. It just became a popular trend like the color mint and the ombre look. It's just cute. I have one from an Etsy store of CreationsByTilly. If you are interested in it, give her LOADS of time to do it and wait until there's a sale. I think I paid $13 plus shipping? And that was with the sale price.

My photographer called it an iconc photo. It's a photo that symbolizes the whole day. You are about to do something that is a whole new thing. I am havingthe shot because I think it's a beautiful shot. I aksed him not to do the rings on the shoes/in the bouquet shot.

I didn't think too hard about it, just thought it was a cool detail shot. Smiley smile Just like taking pictures of the rings, or the unworn shoes, or the centerpieces. It's just a part of the day.

I didn't have a pretty hanger, boo. But still love the shots my photog got!

Sorry for the delay. My job really thinks I'm here to work. Okay I think I get it. It's a symbolic thing and I guess a matter of preference. And this is what I get for asking the question. Now I'm actually considering it. Oh brotha. SMH More vow renewal homework. lol

OTW - Thanks. I may look into it. I'm so caught up.

TheFutureMrsMcWilliams - Thanks for those kind words. I'm having fun planning. Maybe that's the energy you pick up Smiley smile

ETA: Thanks for the explanations ladies.

The dress on the hanger picture just showcases the dress and if it is a personalized hanger, it showcases the wedding day so to speak. We did it and they are very elegant shots. You want detail photos and this is one of them.

I had getting ready shots just for that. I wanted a pic of the dress without me in it.

I originally didn't want this shot, didn't get the point, didn't like it, etc. Then the more I thought about it and looked at the photos, the more I liked it. Then I also ended up ordering an Etsy hanger from CreationsbyTilly (I caught mine on a sale though - $3.50 for the hanger, $10.50 for the shipping, just got it last week and it's AMAZING!!!) and now I'm super excited about having the picture, with my BM dresses hanging on each side of it. I'm probably going to do special hangers in contrasting wood myself for their dresses (I've got the natural wood hangers, probably going to do glittered lettering or something on them) so they stand out, yet are different from mine. I couldn't see spending the extra $$ for the custom wire ones since they'll probably never really use them for anything again anyway. Smiley smile

I do think it's a cute shot though.

I did yhe shot using the wood hangers at the hotel. One with just my dress and tye other eith my dress and the bridesmaids dress. The puctures came out beautiful. (I did the shoes, bouquet, and ring shots too) I think those pics really added to our wedding album.

My thought is, if you're on the fence, you might as well take the picture. I'm guessing you're not limited on the number if pictures you can take so it doesn't hurt to have it.

No idea why they all do that, but we ended up with that in one of our photos. Of course, it was a little different in our case...

I don't always think it's executed well, lighting and background make a huge difference (duh), but when done right I like it.
