Dress on hanger photo?

I was talking to my photographer yesterday about the getting ready pics, and she mentioned the dress on the hanger. And I was thinking about it today and I'm not really sure I want to do have that shot. Is there some kind of meaning behind that particular shot? Not knocking anyone who is doing or has done it, just curious how this pic came to be.

Too many photographers do the same shots; jumping, guys walking together, the dress. It's just a replacement for what they USED to do; brides staring at their rings like they've never seen them before, peering out of their bouquets, fixing the grooms bout. All lovely if they're real photos, but sorta fake if they're not.

I'd say if you have a photographer you trust, give them the list of family shots and let them capture what naturally occurs at the wedding. That being said, if you really have a few pix in mind let them know, but I would bet that any photographer working now is going to do the dress on a hanger shot.

    I'm doing it.

It only takes a few minutes to take the photo. If your photographer has a little bit of downtime while you're getting ready, I would let him/her take the photo. You can always not use it, but you would never be able to recreate that moment again.

Also good photo if you decide to sell the dress later and you don't want a picture of you in it.

Mine just ran around the house snapping pictures. I have her free reign and said just be careful all the cats end up in the closet while I'm putting my dress on... They are like children trying to jump up and get my attention... The closets the size of my smallest bedroom so they were perfectly content in there lol. She took the rings outside and found a chaise as a nice background for my jewelry... All my walls are white so there was a lot of her using floors or table tops to add color or pillows and furniture.

It helps capture your beautiful dress. I had it done, along with all my accessories. Just ensures you get all the detail
