Don't Eat the Mini-Cupcakes!!!

The New Mrs Seedes, on June 15, 2011 at 7:04 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 25

We have decided on mini-cupcakes instead of a cake. They are delicious and we couldn't be more excited. The cupcake table will be set up prior to reception...it takes awhile to set up 240 cupcakes. Here is my worry, how do I stop people from just walking up and taking a cupcake before we officially cut the cake? We don't want cupcakes missing when we are taking the pictures. Does anyone know of any cute sayings or poems we could put in frames or something?

Are you having a top-layer cake to cut? If that's with the cupcakes it should help!

What if you have an attendant kind of keep card near them and if someone inquires, they can simply ask them to wait until you officially cut the cake?

I saw an episode of bridezillas where the guests ate the cupcakes even with a cake to cut.

I am having a six inch cake to cut and I will have a cake topper on it as well. I'm still just a tad nervous. Perhaps, for no reason. I tend to worry over things I shouldn't. I will only have 2 children there (my niece and nephew) so I don't have children to worry about.

Can you get a clear cover for it? Maybe put up little theater roping around them? LOL, but might work.

These are just some that I thought up

These cupcakes are yours to take

    after we cut the cake.

The bride and Groom ask you to wait

    until after we cut cake.

    Tasty cupcakes are a treat,

the bride and groom ask that you be sweet.

    We ask you to wait,

they will be served after we cut the cake.

You can probably just take pictures before you actually cut it.

@Chuwana L.--love your rhymes. I think I'm stealing the first one. We're having cupcakes too.

Definitely do SOMETHING. We had a dessert tower next to our cake, and people gobbled it all up before we even got to the reception. Of course, it was just Twinkies and Sno-Cones and such, but still...RUDE!

Now I am definitely worried. I'm informing all family members and members of the BP that the cupcakes are not to be eaten. That will be at least 1/4 of the people attending the wedding. I'm thinking of actually putting some type of "roping" around the cake table. Would that be rude? Maybe I'll make the roping tulle...

SHannon...ARe you kidding me? Yikes, you didn't get any Twinkies? That sucks!

Lori....What about a staff member keeping an eye out?? I would def put a sign out. Good luck!

I was also worried about this. Some people like to take some dessert so they don't miss out. It is one of the reasons why the catering staff have been told not to set up the pastry table and candy buffet, until after they break down the dinner buffet. It is also the advantage of having 3 different tiny rooms for food.

Maybe put it back in a corner? so it wasn't a place people would just go up to or walk past?

Or a table on wheels that you could hide out in the back until the cutting?

I went to a reception recently that had cup-cakes, but they had put them out on the same tables as the rest of the food/punch, so everyone ate them with their meal. but receptions around here are more "open house" type things then a party that people go to and stay thru the whole thing. it's weird.

Carole, I think they just saw the snacks and grabbed them without noticing them on the dessert table. Luckily I saw one Twinkie left, and one of DH's relatives was like, "THE BRIDE GETS THE LAST TWINKIE!" It was badass.

My new plan is to go to JoAnn Fabrics tomorrow and buy tulle and make sort of a "velvet rope" around the cake table. I will also have polite "No eat the sweets" signs on the table.

Shannon...Totally bad arse and a good friend you have! That would have just been downright shytty if the bride didn't have the last TWINKIE. Oh my, now I need one. One of the reasons the caterers have been told no, is because my father will attack the pizzelle and cannolli. An old Italian man has no shame when it comes to cannolli. I add Frank to that category as well. Smiley smile

Lori....That sounds like the perfect plan! Good luck!

I like the idea of a velvet rope. It will also build anticipation. Guests will see that something special is coming up.

You could also ask your venue if they have some type of screen (like a shoji screen) to put around the cupcakes. This would give you a "big production" type moment when the cake and cupcakes are revealed.
