Dollar Dance.. yes or no?

2BMrsKing, on October 10, 2016 at 5:45 PM

Posted in Etiquette and Advice 90

I've seen dollar dances in past weddings, but current weddings, have not. Is this is uncommon thing now? I have no opinion either way, just curious.

It's rude. Unless your family is from a culture where this is custom (here's a tip: since you're asking this question, you're not!) it is no different from panhandling at your wedding, just like honeymoon jars and Honeyfunds (which are e-panhandling).

Bethany did you read any of this? It's not something her family does. She saw it at a friends wedding.

So ALL of your family have ALWAYS and will ALWAYS BEG for money, hmm Bethany?

So your family enjoys panhandling at weddings.

    Gotcha.

@Bethany, actually the majority of people here said this is fine if it is cultural. But rude, and I find disrespectful to these cultures, if it is not part of your culture.

I don't want my guests to do it, and I would think it would be uncomfortable dancing with people who you may not know, but have to invite because its his moms best friends husbands uncle....

Sometimes I think certain people on here ask questions just to get a reaction out of people. But that's just me.

When I was DJing in west TX I had quite a few brides still requesting to do a dollar dance. In my experience it's usually awkward and guests are hesitant to participate. The only time I have seen a big response is when it is a family tradition and has additional meaning like @BeachDreams mentioned.
