Dollar Dance.. yes or no?

2BMrsKing, on October 10, 2016 at 5:45 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 90

I've seen dollar dances in past weddings, but current weddings, have not. Is this is uncommon thing now? I have no opinion either way, just curious.

No. It's uncomfortable for everyone if no one goes up to dance.

No, though there are lots of people that do it.

In some cultures, the money dance is appropriate as there is tradition and meaning (beyond just getting money) behind the ritual. However, if you are dancing just to get extra money for your honeymoon or whatever and there is no cultural relevance it is rude and tacky. I also find this insulting to cultures that have this tradition, since you are disregarding the meaning and symbolism of a practice for your own monetary gain. Also, cultural is not the same as regional.

You got mad at us last time you asked for an opinion and didn't like what we said,

Dollar dances are tacky and rude unless they are part of your culture.

I feel uncomfortable doing this and asking my guests for money. I have not seen it done in a long time and I have attended quite a few weddings.

I'm asking opnions, I'm simply asking if it's uncommon now. I haven't seen them in newer weddings. I wasn't planning on doing it.

It's never been common. It's always been tacky.

If you're not planning to do one why ask if they're common? I don't understand.

My co-worker got married over the weekend, and had it... that's what made me think of it.

My FHs family is Adamant about doing a money dance... I don't want to, but it's a huge deal for them so I'll deal. Good luck!
