Does the ring bearer actually hold the rings?

marriedlady, on August 2, 2012 at 3:36 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 19

I have a question, does the ring bearer actually take the actual rings down the aisle or are they "fake" rings?

Does the best man actually hold on to the real thing?

It depends on the age of the rb. Mine will be 1 1/2 at the wedding so the bm and Moh will hold the rings. He will be using fake rings!

My sone will just turn 3. 3 days before the wedding LOL

I'm not sure i will have him holding them. I'll probably just have BM hold them just to be on the safe side. Smiley smile

We had our BM hold the REAL rings.. We put a fake ring on the the RB pillow.

I guess it depends.. Our RB is only 1 1/2.

It depends on the age of your ring bearer. If he is old enough to walk down the aisle, he can carry the rings. Consider giving him a pillow where there is a ribbon or thread that you can tie the rings onto. Once he gets down the aisle, he can give the rings to the best man.

Mine will be 7 so I'll probably let him carry the rings and then give him to the best man when he gets down the aisle.

My little brother is the ring bearer. He will be 7 at the time of the ceremony. He will carry the real rings down the aisle on the pillow I made where they are securely tied onto. He will hand the pillow to the best man who will untie them and hold them until needed. We decided that he was old enough, besides if he didn't have the real rings we didn't see the point of having a ring bearer. He won't have the pillow with the rings in his possession until he is walking down the aisle, and unless he is a mastermind magician there is no way the rings are going to get lost on his walk down the aisle when everyone's eyes are on him. If he was younger and didn't understand the concept of giving the pillow to someone else, then we might consider fake rings.

Our RBs did not have the real rings, they were 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 at the time of the wedding and we got married outside right next to a huge pond. There were way too many things that could have gone wrong in that situation. Our BM had my ring in his pocket and our MOH had his ring on her thumb

My RB was 4 and very easy to direct. We gave him a little treasure box with the actual rings in it, and he solemnly handed it to the best man after he walked with his sister (FG) up the aisle. If you can count on your RB, then go for it....but you might want to put them in/on something sturdier than a pillow.

Our ring bearer is almost 8 years old & very mature, so he'll be holding the real rings. They'll be in a box, so not too worried about them.

I guess what I never understood is.. what exactly is the point of having a ring bearer that is just walking fake rings down the aisle?

I'm having a flower girl but no ring bearer.

I hadn't even thought about fake rings. My plan was to give the rings to the BM before the ceremony and then have him tie them onto the pillow for our son right before he goes down the aisle, then our son will just give them right back to the BM.

Definitely fake. Or just no rings at all. Our RB carried a pillow with a corsage on it and she's 6. Our MOH/Best Man held our rings.

Just b/c a child is old enough to walk down an aisle does not mean they should be entrusted with something as important as wedding rings!

Lauren G-just be aware that if he is a fidgeter, they may be tied on more securely than you had planned.
