Does groomsmen vest and bridesmaids dress have to match?

BRANDY, on August 1, 2011 at 2:13 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

My bridesmaid dress color is a light blue and I can't find a vest with that exact matching color. I'm considering having my groomsmen wear a silver vest. What do you think?

I did silver. I think matching the dress to the vest is kinda prom-ish.

We are having gold as one of our wedding colors and there are no dresses that match the vests so we are going to have to do 2 different colors. We might do black vests.

I agree w/Hayley - matching them exactly will look kinda like they're off to the prom.

My BMs are wearing black, and the GM will have black tuxes w/Malibu (blue) vests & ties.

Girls wore eggplant. Guys had silver vest/tie.

Their bouts matched the bouquets though.

    Hubby wore purple vest/tie.

I want to do a burnt orange for the girls and lapis (purple) for the guys... Do you think that would work?

My girls are wearing lavender dress with ivory sash and the guys are wearing lavender vest and tie. Never thought of them not matching, but it sounds great.

Nope. My best friend just got married last weekend...our dresses were olive green and the groomsmen's vests were lavender. They looked beautiful together.

@Michelle. Orange and purple were our graduation colors. Personally I hated it, but I've seen some neat things done with orange and another bright choice as wedding colors. If you are a bold person, I say go for it.

I think it's your preference. As long as the colors coordinate with one another it doesn't matter. My guys are wearing chocolate vest and girls are wearing chocolate dresses. Only because the orange didn't look goo on all my girls so we just went with what looked best on everyone.

Same with Soon to be Mrs Clark. All the groomsmen are wearing Persimmon to match the BMs. The Best Man is doing the same, but he'll have a pocket square so that he is standing out. And FH is doing ivory to match my dress

@Michelle I think that sounds awesome, especially for a fall wedding! I'm not sure what shade of purple you're thinking but I would consider a darker, eggplant-y look.

They don't have to be! Matching can look really good with some colors, but, like Haley said, more like prom with others. I don't think our girls and gals will match because I want the men to look a little more formal.

We're not matching them. The girls will wear dark pink dresses an the guys lime green shirts, and the girls will carry bouquets with green and pink flowers, and the guy will have pink flower bout's. Not matchy matchy...

My girls dresses were eggplant with a wine color belt, my dress had some red in it. the groom's vest and tie was red, the rest of the guys were black (w/ black shirts and jackets), but the guy's ties were eggplant, all the guys had a wine and eggplant colour hankie thing in their breast pocket.

Ours aren't matching (although the sales lady at MW almost had a heart attack when I wouldn't have them match). Our wedding colors are wine and cognac. The girls are wearing wine dresses and the guys are wearing cognac vests
