Do you take your e-ring on vacations?

Ingrid, on August 11, 2018 at 8:47 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27
We are about to go on a 2-week trip to Alaska. I guess I should leave my ring at home in a safe … it’s a pretty expensive ring, and I’m not sure if I’ll need to take it off for some of our excursions and don’t want the maid to take it or something. I’m so sad though! I don’t have a “placeholder” ring. I imagine once we get our wedding hands that I’ll just wear that out for vacations.

What do you do for a long vacation???

Ummm I take my ring with me and always wear it. I only take it off if I'm cleaning it or playing with raw meat.

You can always put it on a necklace or something if you want to take it off for an excursion.

I traveled plenty with my ring in the two years I was engaged. I just did with it what I do at home - put it in a safe place if not wearing it. If your room has a safe, you could put it in there if you're out doing something active. I'd think it's more likely you'd lose it than "the maid" steal it. Some people like to travel with a fake ring insread. If you wère going on some sort of wilderness backpacking trip, I would suggest leaving it at home.

31 years married with a one-carat diamond, and I've never even considered leaving it home or taking it off for vacation.

    It's insured...so I don't worry about it.

It's a beautiful ring, I still get compliments on it after all this time...and proudly wear it.

My FH and I got silicone rings for that purpose, and he works with hands and doesn't want to mess it up.

Also married 31+ years. I usually leave my wedding set (it's soldered...) at home in the safe when we travel and wear an anniversary band that has five smaller diamonds. The anniversary ring is probably worth about a quarter of what my wedding set is, and isn't nearly as sentimental to me. I'd hate to lose it, but not nearly as much as I'd hate to lose my wedding set. (And, knowing me, I worry much more about losing it, than someone stealing it.)

Only times I take mine off is when I’m cleaning, showering, cooking with meat and when I go to bed. At work sometimes I will put it around my neck on a necklace because I work stocking and feel safer that way. Also usually most hotels have safes you can set your own passcode to if you truly don’t wanna wear it to activities but I think you’ll be okay.

I have a $20 ring from amazon that I wear if I'm going to a sketchy area of town late at night or will be going somewhere and dont want to risk losing it. I jokingly say it is my "i dont care if I get mugged ring"

I think it depends on where you’re going and what you’re doing. I left my e-ring home when I went to South Dakota for two weeks, but I was working in a kitchen so I couldn’t wear it anyway (or wouldn’t want to). I bought a silicone ring specifically for that trip, but now I use it regularly like when I’m on the lake or other things like that. I know it’s insured, but I’d be heart broken if I lost it and it could have been prevented.

I wore mine on our honeymoon to Greece and Germany. I even wore it when we we snorkeling (granted it fits me perfect and is in no way too big or in danger of falling off).....my husband said: "It is meant to be worn. If you put it in a safe I keep it at home, what is the point in owning it?!"
And my ring cost around $13k and was custom made.

At the end of the day it is up to you, but I only ever take my ring off when I go to sleep or handling raw meat basically. Lol

Ok if you can take your $13k ring snorkeling, I think I’m fine taking my $10k ring to Alaska!!
Thanks for all the responses! It helps to know what other people do. I don’t have any engaged friends.

I did not wear mine on our honeymoon to Europe because the areas we went to are known for having a lot of pickpockets. I thought having a big shiny ring on my finger would make me more of a target (my ring’s diamond is big and there are diamonds on the band so it’s reallty shiny!) Plus, some of those pickpockets are super crazy sneaky and can actually steal jewelry right off of you! I don’t think you’ll have any problems in Alaska though. The maid won’t steal your ring, that’s not really a thing that happens (I mean, most people are honest and anyway it would be so obvious who took it). Plus, your room should have a safe where you can put it.

I'm going to Alaska next week as well! So excited!! Hadn't even considered not bringing my ring. It's meant to be worn! As long as it fits well and doesn't fall off when your not paying attention I wouldn't worry

I take mine most places, but for our honeymoon I left mine at home. I was told by our insurance company and the jeweler that having it on vacation was a bad idea. Large stones of any kind make you a target with thieves especially in high tourist areas. Also when on vacation if you were to lose it God forbid, you would have a lot more area to cover to find it, if you were able to retrace your steps. We went swimming with what sharks in open ocean, if I had lost my ring there it would take jacques custaue ro find it again...
    It's just a risk i wouldn't take.
