Do you have to have programs?

Future Mrs. Firkins, on June 22, 2017 at 1:04 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 37

Self-explanatory title, but do you have to have programs at the ceremony? I'm sort of tempted to just put up a sign like one of my friends did and list the bridal party and be done. Of course, because we have 6 guys and 6 girls up there, plus parents, I would need a pretty decent sized sign. Would that be too much and tacky because of it?

Of course you don't need programs. You don't need a sign either. But if you want one, go for it.

I'm not doing programs because most people know how weddings go. I'm also not listing the bridal parties name on anything. They will be introduced into the reception and if people want to find out who they are they can go talk to them.

Programs are completely optional, and honestly (I may be in the minority here), I've never cared about who is in the wedding party or wanted to know more about them. I've seen some wedding websites that list names and mini-bios of the wedding party, but unless you're doing it to try and make them feel honored, I doubt your guests are going to care who your line-up is.

Honestly? If people don't know who is in your BP, they probably don't care.

    Skip them.

I'm doing programs. My family collects those things. Haha I feel like the sign has to be huge if you want people to actually be able to read it from their seats.

The church where we are having it requires one. if you aren't having a church wedding, i think its unnecessary unless its something you want.

No programs here, we are making a sign and putting it at the entrance so no one misses the driveway because you can't fully see the venue from the road

The only reason we're doing a program is because we're doing a Jewish wedding and most people at the wedding aren't Jewish. So we're only doing one to explain the different parts of the ceremony. So if you're not explaining ceremony parts to guests who might not know what's going on, I'd skip them.

Though if you're doing an outdoor wedding and made fans that were also programs, then I wouldn't be opposed to that.

You don't have to programs or a sign if you don't want programs. Like missgtomrsg also my family collects programs so we be doing one.

Yup, I have programs. About 30 of the 60 ordered sitting in a box in my basement. SKIP them.

My dad INSISTED I do them last minute. All the stress for something I knew was a waste. oh well.

Yeah I'm not doing them either after realizing that I've only seen one at the last five weddings I have been to. It didn't make or break the day.

Nope, they are not NECESSARY. Although, as a guest, if your ceremony is longer with readings and music and such, I do like to have one so I can follow along. We are just doing a sign - which could even be overkill honestly.
