Do you have to have programs?

Self-explanatory title, but do you have to have programs at the ceremony? I'm sort of tempted to just put up a sign like one of my friends did and list the bridal party and be done. We are doing "formal" programs. The sign sounds cool but my only concern would be if you have last minute change of plans. We are not going to print our programs till the night before. I know it sounds like extra stress but my parents had people who no-showed in their WP (one was my dad's brother and he didn't even call!)

Of course you don't have to but...

If your service is longer or has participatory elements and/or folks won't be familiar with it and you want them to participate you'll probably want them.

For example, we're Catholic and having a full mass but most of our guests are protestants so, we feel we definitely need programs.

My friend who had a 5 minute civil service, didn't.

Thank you all! You have been so helpful! In the past two days, I've decided I'm now skipping on both the programs and wedding favors. I just feel like 9 times out of 10, everyone has said those got looked over or forgotten. Money wasted. This wedding is expensive enough! I appreciate your help!

We made paper fans and put the program on the back of them! Since I'm getting married in July in Florida, we thought fans would be a nice touch Smiley smile

Were having a full mass and the church recommended doing programs, but otherwise I would totally opt out of it if it wasn't a church wedding.

I'm thinking of doing a program slideshow to play on loop as everyone finds a seat and stuff.

I think you should whatever feels confortable just remember people don't tend to keep them.

We are having programs because we are having a catholic ceremony, and over half the guests are not catholic. It's a longer ceremony with a lot of elements. But, if we were having a more simple ceremony I would not have them. Definitely not a requirement!

We are doing a petal fan program for our catholic mass wedding because I am also doing my confirmation and our son is getting baptized. It's going to be a long day and probably hot day so the fan program will be doing double duty.

As a guest; I love love love handed out programs. A sign... no. Adorable for a staged cutesy photo... but in my experience it's always crowded and you walk right by it... serves no purpose.

You don't need either in my opinion! We aren't doing programs or a sign listing who is who. Wedding party will be introduced into the reception though!
