Do I need a petticoat with this dress...?

Brady, on May 1, 2014 at 4:34 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 29

So, my wedding is in a month (freaking out time!!!!!!), and this is the dress I will be wearing:

http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Satin-Gown-with-Beaded-Waist-and-Illusion-Back-SWG564

When I purchased the dress at DB last year, I also bought a crinoline/petticoat (the one where it just poofs out on the bottom). I had the dress altered there along with the petticoat because the back of it needed to be adjusted because of the dress. My alterations with the dress didn't go well at DB. I found a different tailor and in a few fittings he fixed the dress. He doesnt think I need a petticoat.

I don't really want to wear the petticoat. It's pretty uncomfortable and makes going to the bathroom and getting dressed more complicated. BUT I don't want to look dumb if really looks better with the petticoat. I don't want to look at my pictures and regret not wearing it!

I think I am looking for validation that this dress is okay as it is.

Pic on left are with petticoat.

I slightly prefer it without the petticoat. Both ways look great though.

Hmmmmm, I like it both ways. I guess the only question is, which way are you most comfortable in, and feel most like a bride in?

My wedding is kind of "old hollywood" in vibe. It's in a brick courtyard at an historic restaurant with candles, ivy, fountain, etc. Definitely not super traditional.

Bridesmaids will be wearing (in black, and with a small sparkly brooch on sash and not a huge flower):

Which after them sending me photos at their fittings, it a lot sexier than I thought!! haha! they look great though.

If it looks okay without a petticoat I think I would rather not wear it; I feel more... free. And I think it would fit in better with the bridesmaid dresses.

I prefer it with. I guess I just feel like dresses hang there all limp without the crinoline underneath supporting it.

I found these pics of a pretty bride in the dress. No petticoat?

Thanks for all the input Smiley smile

I think it's fine without. To be honest, I can barely see a difference.

I really can't tell must of a difference at all - but I think the natural flow of the dress appeals more to me.

It's hard to tell, but from what I can see in the photos I think it looks better without. I like the flow of the dress. The opinions you get may somewhat reflect peoples personal dress preference, those who like the ballgown style may prefer it with, those who prefer other styles might like it better without. Just a thought Smiley smile

I tried this dress on without and thought it looked great. I'm skipping a petticoat with my dress as well. As long as you're comfortable, that's all that really matters. Either way, you'll look great.

I like it with, too (sorry!). But it does look nice without too, and if you like it better without and are more comfortable without, then so be it. None of your guests will know the difference.
