I’m honestly just curious to see how many of you have a do not play list you’re giving to your wedding DJ. & why unless it is too personal of course. My dad is a DJ and rarely has clients that give him one but every so often someone does and it’s usually very specific. For example: “NO KELLY...

Our no play list includes the chicken dance song, sweet Caroline (bad memories for me), and Bruno Mars (FH Hates his music) we also have a few “Must play” songs that you may not always hear at weddings such as Every Thug Needs a Lady (alkaline trio) 1985 (bowling for soup) and Sharpest of Lives (MCR)

We have one for sure! There’s a lot of the typical ones like chicken dance on there. But there is also no country music. And specifics like no Adele, no Jordan Sparks, no Celine Dion. Those mostly come from the fact that my mom way overplays songs when she finds ones she loves. If I never hear the song “No Air” ever again in my life I’ll be super happy 😂

We absolutely had a do not play list! We both outlawed Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran lol. I said NO WAY to "Single Ladies" and all line dances (Macarena, Chicken Dance and Cha Cha Slide included!)

Our DJ had a 3 list thing - the "do not play" list, the "if you can squeeze these in, please do" list, and the "must play no matter what" list. We had a limit of 10 musts, 20 yes please and 15 no thank yous. Based on that, he was able to make a really great night of music and not one person complained Smiley smile

Finally someone who agrees with me! I really have no true reason as to why I don't like them, but I skip their songs so quick every time.

I do not want any of the old traditional wedding songs like chicken dance, macarena, ymca, etc. I will opt for the modern wedding songs like cupid shuffle, wobble, etc. I also do not want any country songs because that's not our style. I also do not want any slow songs (besides our first dance). I feel like slow songs take away from the momentum of the party. Also, no Ariana Grande or Taylor Swift because both FH and I do not like them at all and do not want to support them in any way.

We have one for our band too! They have a pretty large set list so they asked us to narrow it down to get a better idea of our style. We added “Single Ladies”, and anything by Fifth Harmony or The Weeknd. Oh and “My Girl.” We love that song, but it used to be my parents’ song before they got a divorce a couple years ago, so that’s just an awkward turtle moment we’d like to avoid lol

Me either I think it just makes me giggle when people are like "NO _____" w/ no explanation bc the list of possible reasons is endless and it makes me wonder Smiley tongue My dad always respects the bride's wishes, of course. My DJ does too. I didn't realize this when I wrote this but I think I am going to blacklist Taylor Swift for the night lol

That makes sense! also agree that "single ladies" is getting SO old. it got old fast, to be honest. my dad still uses it almost every week for the bouquet toss believe it or not. before that it was "I feel like a woman" every week. I still haven't decided.

I don't need to ask why you don't like taylor swift because I feel like most people don't at this point. (well that can't be true bc she's still doing well but I don't know anyone myself who is a huge fan.. myself included Smiley tongue ) but I'm so curious about why you don't like ariana grande

Definitely have an extensive do not play list as well as a “if you don’t play this song, you’re not getting paid” list😂

pretty much no country AT ALL. fh and i absolutely HATE country music with a passion lol

no: cotton eyed joe, eclectic slide, cha cha slide, this is how we do it, don’t stop believing, footloose, cupid shuffle, etc.

our MUST PLAY list is: river deep mountain high, proud mary, soul man, juju on that beat, & despacito remix

It’s kind of a joke between me & my friends, i always request that song when we go out to the bars😂

& I SAID THE EXACT THING about cotton eyed joe. i was like “i will leave my own wedding & no one will be paid if this song is played”

We had a Do Not Play list and basically excluded a few rando's like the chicken dance, polka music, and then any songs we find personally offensive. It was probably a max of 2 songs and an entire genre (polka... I am AMAZED at how much polka I've heard at weddings!). We originally weren't going to include one but the DJ asked and after we thought about it we realized we had a few to add!
