Dj- Do Not Play List

I’m honestly just curious to see how many of you have a do not play list you’re giving to your wedding DJ. & why unless it is too personal of course. My dad is a DJ and rarely has clients that give him one but every so often someone does and it’s usually very specific. For example: “NO KELLY...

That makes sense! I have such a bubbly, out there personality and everyone knows I listen to everything so I feel like anything will work. But if I was at my best friend's who despises country everyone would be like um? and she would look mad/annoyed Smiley tongue

I can't imagine country making any sense with the way she would decorate/the venue she will choose either.

We just have 2 artists not to play lol R. Kelly and Mary J. Blige. R.Kelly because I just really don't care for him plus all of the stuff he's done. And Mary J. because she sings all broken hearted songs and we went to a wedding and that's all the DJ played lol

We are making our own Spotify playlist for the reception so we don’t have a do not play list. We’re trying to make it a good mix of music that everyone can get down with!

Exactly! They have requested it at bars before because they knew it would get a reaction out of him. I also don't really want Cruise by Florida Georgia Line Played because it is my fiance's and his ex's song, but I feel like he would think it is petty of me not to want it played, but I don't think it is a common wedding song anyways.

I really don't want the cha cha slide haha EVERY party has it -.- and we are pretty open I mean we coukd be picky but I also have a playlist made already of ones I want from when we were going to do a DIY dj so our DJ will have a pretty good understanding of what we want. FH would like as little country or religious as possible but I threw a few favs in!

I have a do not play list bc there are certain songs I hate. I’m a musician and an elementary/middle school teacher and there are some things I refuse to listen to on my wedding day!

Our DNP list is small, we only have the chicken dance and electric slide on there as of now. But I did tell our DJ that we will have children in attendance so nothing inappropriate or bad language, so I guess that automatically excludes most rap songs lol

I mean I think it's completely dependent on if the couple picks enough songs to fill up the night. If they do, I don't see the need for a do not play list. Additionally, if the bride and groom don't allow song requests I don't really see the need for a do not play list. We are asking all our guests on the rsvps for a song request so we aren't taking any on the actual day. So if our songs don't add up to 4 hours or whatever then we will try to list more.

Right!!! Last wedding they played songs about snorting coke and banging broads...i was like whoa...how inappropriate.
Never mind the fact that played the first slow song for guests to dance to 3 hours into the reception.

OP we are giving our DJ a very specific set of songs we want played and ones that are to be avoided (all the group dances, chicken dance, and a couple others) because they're just not our thing.

You bet I have one lol. NO AC/DC, no screaching, no pour some sugar on me, no no no. There are too many 80s people coming to my wedding and I will not be listening to hair metal. My mom gets 1 or 2 Bon Jovi songs and that's it.

Absolutely NO NO NO group dance songs, they absolutely irritate me - the chicken dance, etc. - it would make me livid.

And None of the typically cheesy non appropriate wedding songs that are constantly overplayed. - like “I will Always love you,” um it’s about a breakup. I have a list of those, and then just genres. No rap at all or country, but he likes a few songs we might have played. We did ask our guests to provide a music option with RSVPs to gauge what people will dance to.

We are having two different playlists. One is to be played before 9pm. Which Is more my type of music. After 9pm is when the DJ is allowed to play the heavy metal inappropriate music...

I have a no play for ‘Stacy’s Mom’. My nickname has always been Stacy and that song has haunted me ever since it came out. I know for a fact my brother will try to play it to annoy me. Ain’t gonna happen!
