Your Engagement Ring: Total Surprise, Some Input, or Picked it Out Yourself?

Total surprise! I didn't think I'd like princess cut ones, but man... he did good. Lol.

Complete surprise! He had it custom made at a shop in Australia. I promise there is no other ring like mine, and I love him so much more for ensuring it is unique like us 😁

He proposed to me with a placeholder ring he picked up while we were on vacation in Mexico (also proposed in Mexico 2 days later). I love the sentiment behind the ring but it's not my style, so I was slightly relieved when he told me I got to pick my own. He had zero input on what he wanted me to have but gave me a budget and was vocal if he thought something was ugly lol.

FH asked me for ideas and I said "..you know I have a Pinterest board right?" Then the rest was on him!

We talked about it for months! It turns out, the FH knows a lot about jewelry. We went down rabbit holes trying to find what we wanted.
Ultimately we bought the stone (a 2 carat lab created sapphire) and the ring (a 14k cast from the mold of a vintage piece) separately online. We chose the jewelry store we wanted to put it together carefully because we wanted to build a lifelong relationship with them.
I just love it!

He asked me what styles I liked but the actual ring was a complete surprise! He did run it by my sister though to make sure it was perfect and it sure was!

My first e-ring was a total surprise! We’ve been engaged for 10 years though and “upgraded” my e-ring when our finances allowed. I kept the center stone for sentimental reasons but upgraded the setting!

We went to the jeweler back in January to get a feel for what I liked. They saved 4 or 5 rings on our file as my "favorites," and it was one of those that I ended up getting

I tried to put some input butttttt he came from left field and gave me something far far better than I expected!! The only thing he did that I very seriously asked for was a gemstone! 😍😍

A complete surprise! FW asked a couple people what they thought of the ring but picked it out herself!

100% a surprise! He custom made it at a store in Chicago! The day after I graduated he took me on a date to the first restaurant we went to as an item and took me to a fountain we visited early on in our relationship (we went over the railing to dip our feet in the water). He had me take my promise ring off and replaced it with a beautiful white gold ring! His best friend came out from behind the trees and took pictures, then my parents and his brother came from across the street to celebrate with champagne! It was perfect!

No ring. He is not big on wearing rings (his mom never wears her ring either) and my work doesn't allow me to wear rings so I feel like I would only wear it two days a week. We haven't decided what we will do. We may do necklaces instead.

I picked it out. He was pretty adamant that I at least give input and I was adamant the other way. However, my sister told me he's struggling because he'd pick beautiful rings but then hate them when someone tried them on. I ended up picking my own and so glad I did! What I fell in love with was a bit different than what I had in mind. He bought the ring a week or two after I picked it out and proposed two months later (total surprise). It was hard waiting for the ring when I knew he already bought it!

I had some input but I was also surprised.
I dont wear gold. I also told FH that if he spent a lot of money on a ring, that it would go to a pawn shop the next day 😂
So he surprised me with a silver family heirloom piece thats been in his family for 5 generations ❤ and I absolutely LOVE my ring!!

He picked it out himself. I love it.

Total surprise and capture my style and personality with the ring. Its perfect. I love it!!

The only thing I told him was I definitely wanted a square cut. I was most surprised when he proposed....i wasn't expecting it for quite some time, but he said he could wait any longer. 😁

My ring was my MIL’s from her marriage to my husband’s dad. Years after they divorced, she gave it to my husband for “the special one” he meets. He said he did look at rings too but really wanted me to have this ring. I love its uniqueness. We never discussed rings and I liked the surprise when he proposed.
