Worst thing possible

Chelsea, on September 3, 2016 at 5:18 PM Posted in Planning 0 88

I signed a contract with my venue 5 months ago... And two days ago I receive this. We've literally bought everything that specifically fits that facility. Chair covers, table cloths, curtains, EVERYTHING!

    Can you move your date?

While this really sucks, it is not the worst thing possible.

You have a good window of time still, check out the venues tab here and see what you can find that could be even better than you were getting at this other place! Things happen for a reason!

No. I've already ordered everything, which includes save the dates that have already been sent out. I live in a small town and have a limited budget so while finding another venue may be possible it's not within my budget.

I've also already had my engagement pictures done which have the date in them. I'm in my last semester of nursing school and don't have a single free day until I graduate with precepting and what not so I made sure EVERYTHING was done this summer. To someone who can replace these items because money isn't an option it may not seem like a big deal, but it is for me. Smiley sad

I'm looking at a couple places, but I even booked dj and everything and they charge by the mile... Which is just an additional expense.

DId you get wedding/event insurance? If so, it can help pay for either moving the date or venue (and all that comes with it).

See if they can help you find other options to accommodate you. It was their mistake so maybe you can squeeze some extras into your package... Do they have an area for a tent (with heaters if its still cold)?

Or do they have contacts in the area that may be able to help?

Omg I would be livid!!!! I'm so sorry this is happening to you! Does this venue have an in house caterer or did you hire an outside one? If so, maybe you can talk to something with a lot of property to sent up a tent and then personalize it with all the stuff you've already purchased. Otherwise maybe you can use a local county club or something? What state are you in?

The only thing I can think of (and it'll probably be a PITA) is accept their offer to move the date and send out postcards or something telling guests about your new date and apologizing for any inconvenience. The venue should compensate you in some fashion for it, like offering to pay for the now useless STDs.

That's ridiculous! I'd be so mad. I think it's their obligation to help you figure something else out now since it's their mistake.

This happened to a friend of mine. She moved her dated and bc they breached the contract she signed (they decided to renovate the place when she was supposed to have her wedding) and they paid for her entire reception cost- food, open bar, wait staff and cost of renting the hotel it was at. Call them up and demand they pay for everything if you switch your date and if they say no tell them you'll be in contact with your lawyer and hang up. See how fast they cal back...

And I can't believe they said "a touch of bad news."

Way for them to try to minimize it.

If you have a contract you need to demand they do something.

Can you change the date and have the venue reimburse you for the STDs and any other things that have the original wedding date? Sorry this happened to you. Hope everything works out.

This is not the worst thing possible, trust me. This sometimes happens. Change your date and send out postcards with the new date. Alternatively, you can find a new venue and (possibly) keep your date. I find it hard to believe you don't have a single day free if you wanted to scout new venues.

Definitely not the worst thing. You and your FH are both healthy, right?

Check your contract, hire a lawyer.

Take them up on their offer. Make this venue work and "have them make it up to you".

Your venue is breaking your contract. They should be compensating you for any money you've spent on things with that date (STDs) and they should pay the deposit on a new venue if you have to change venues. Contact a lawyer for advice.

Elizabeth K.. Have you been in nursing school? If not I understand how you don't understand. Monday- Wednesday I have class, Thursday and Friday I have clinicals... All day... From ****.... And Saturday and Sunday I have to precept, a full 12 hours, so if you can find time in that schedule please let me know. I know it's not the "worst thing in the entire world" it's just a big deal... My bad for the title I guess.

I appreciate the suggestions from everyone else though! I have another venu in mind but it's in another town because, like I said, my town is very small and that's the only option here. I've talked with the other venue, besides the substantial price difference, I think it may work out, but I'm not sure if all the chair covers and linens I've already purchased will fit that venue.

The fact that they misspelled "definitely" irritates me for some reason.

I second what everyone else is saying about checking your contract. You should not be responsible for cleaning up the mess of their oversight.

Changing the date isn't so easy either. I've had this planned for 5 months and I have family in Oregon that have already bought plane tickets. They got a really good deal for ordering them so quickly. I've booked my cake and caterer and both are from the town I was originally having the wedding in. Idk I guess I just needed to vent. It's a lot to deal with.
