STD's are out - Wedding Website traffic not what I expected

DIY-WA, on June 21, 2012 at 2:36 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

Maybe my expectations were wrong but we sent out 30 STD for our small wedding and our wedding website has been viewed '37 times' but it counts each page viewed as a 'time'. This basically means that only 4 or 5 people have looked at it, two of which are my parents. We put a lot of info on it for people to plan but they just aren't looking at it. I find this odd, even if they aren't going to make it to the wedding, my curiosity would make me look at someone's website. Has anyone else experienced this?

My invites are out and my wedding is in 16 days and hardly anyone has visited our website. There are guests who still don't know we have one even though it was on the STD and multiple places on the invite. I wouldn't worry about it.

Yea, I experienced the same thing Lisa. I just came to the realization that ppl just don't have the time and are really busy. Lame excuse I say. Smiley smile Plus, since your wedding is next year they probably have said to themselves that they have plenty of time to check the website. Sorry. But don't worry as the wedding date gets closer you should have more ppl checkin it out. CONGRATS.

Your wedding is still a ways off. I've learned that no one cares as much about your wedding as you do, Smiley smile so they probably didn't rush in the second they got it and check the website. Maybe more will look at it once you send out the invites? When people ask you questions, you can always direct them to the site if you want to drum up traffic.

I was disappointed at first too, but now, two months to the wedding, over 500 views have been made. :-) It'll happen. Just give it some time.

I just looked at mine and I have over 500 views. WHAT THE HECK? I haven't told anyone about it. They're probably all mine, lmao.

Thank you!!! I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one that's running into this. You ladies are great! I am going to re-think how much info is in the invite since this clearly isn't the best way to communicate with my guests!

I think maybe people will start looking at it more closer to the date.

My traffic was slow too! My save the STDs were magnets and people just put them on their fridge and overlooked the website. When they would ask me questions about the wedding, my response was always "IT'S ON THE WEBSITE!".

The RSVPs through the site were the most frusterating! It is such a good tool for tracking if people would actually RSVP correctly!!

Be prepared that a lot of people will call you and ask questions about hotels/etc even if that info is on the invite or website. Or they will call and ask you if you have a website when it's printed on the STD. Or they will call and ask you for your wedding date or where you're getting married...when it's on the STD. Not everyone reads. Smiley smile

Don't stress, it doesn't mean people aren't excited or that they aren't coming, or that you've done something wrong.

I had a lot of people look at mine but I emailed out the link. I think it's much easier if all you have to do is just click verses pull out a piece of paper and type.

Ditto to the above. Our STDs went out with the website on them and SO many people still have no idea that we have a website. My wedding is in 72 days and still people have not looked. I went ahead and sent out emails to people about the hotel info so they would BOOK! Crazy crazy - don't fret, people just don't read.

People will start hitting it as your wedding gets closer. I had a few hits when I sent the STD's out, then it really slowed down until the day got closer. The week before it was off the hook! I wouldn't expect people to sign the guestbook though. I think they just go get the info they need and ignore the rest of it.

I hope people view mine! Especially because my wedding is a DW and they would need to go there to get the travel and hotel information.

I was once told, nobody will truly care about your wedding as much as you and your fiance. Frankly, they have their own lives, and as much as your wedding is the center of your life right now, it's not the center of theirs. That doesn't mean they don't love you or care that you are getting married, it's just that they have their own lives to live. Nothing wrong with that. But like others have said, your wedding is still a while out, you'll get more traffic, even if you have to point people to the website again and again.

Make sure that you put emphasis on the website whenever they need access to information. I have 1070 views and that's since the end of May? Anytime someone wants me to answer a question, I respond "have you been to my website? No?Let me give it to you."
