Head table vs. sweetheart table? (and Mrs. Joseph what did you end up doing?)

ncbride, on October 18, 2010 at 8:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 30

I want to go with the head table, only because it's what I am used to seeing (I guess). My family go to weddings where there is a sweet heart table and they come back complaining .."why was the bridal party scattered all over the place?"

what are you doing?

We're doing a sweetheart table. But really because the venue is split into a few combined dining rooms so there isn't much room for a big head table. Plus since we're only having a best man and a maid of honor I figure they would have more fun sitting with family and friends.

We're doing a head table and since there are 16 of us total, it will actuallly be a two-tiered head table. Mostly we're doing this because my FS is shy and is hoping that having everyone around us will help deflect attention away from us.

We will also have that many in our bridal party. Having the head table also saves on guests tables and centerpieces ...

There were 18 of us, inc FGs & RB so we did a sweetheart table and the 2 closest tables were for the bridal/groom's party and their guest.

We had a sweetheart table, then the table to our left was the groomsmen and their families while the table to our right was the BMs and their fams. I highly recommend a sweetheart because throughout the craziness of the day, you and your new husband don't have any alone time. It is so nice to sit and eat dinner just the 2 of you.

We're doing a head table, for just the wedding party, we only have 2 bms and one Best man, I think only one of them is bringing a date so I think they'll be okay for a while w/ out thier date our wedding reception isn't going to be really long it's in the morning so I plan on being done by about 11am or 12

We are doing a sweetheart table - I agree with The Potters about needing the alone time in the middle of the craziness. And each of our attendants are bringing dates (all good friends of ours) so we figured they would like to sit together. BUT we also have divorced parents on both sides, so half the room would be the head table if we did it... I think everyone will have fun no matter what Smiley smile

Personally, I love the sweetheart table. For my bff's wedding I thought the head table was such a fun idea because I was a BM and so I was in display and it felt like an honor..but quite honestly...it kinda sucked. For half the reception I was separated from my FS and the poor thing was a little lonely since his guest was sitting in a table away from him. Smiley sad What I'm doing is I'm putting my bridal with their guest or s/o on tables closest to us. I think this works perfect..they're still close to us but sitting with their guest.

Can I choose "none of the above"? At the luncheon immediately after the ceremony, there were only 12 guests, and the venue was able to put all 14 of us around one big table. At that at-home reception, our attendants were not present, but we didn't really want to sit by ourselves. We therefore gathered up a few people who had really helped us out in putting the wedding together and their guests, and made a pseudo-"head" table.

We're doing a head table, but I will be including seats for my bm's husband and my other bm's long-time boyfriend (both of these bm's are my cousins). And if the groomsmen decide to bring dates then we will accomodate them as well. I don't feel things have to be hugely traditional, but I like the idea of the head table, I just don't want to separate my bridal party from their significant others lol Smiley smile

Hmm....not everyone in my BP is bringing a guest per say...and some are. I already have so many of them...to add their guests to the head table would make it soooo long! I already plan to sit their FHs next to ppl they know, so they won't be too lonely. I would for them to eat with their dates though....idk...a bit undecided still. Once the dancing start, they will be with their guests :-/

I recently wrote a blog post about the different options of where the Bride and Groom sit during the reception. If you're interested, you can find it at: http://bashertweddings.blogspot.com/2010/09/where-to-sit-at-your-own-reception.html

    Hope that helps!

I am doing a head table. I know that FH will not be comfortable with a sweetheart table (center of attention) and then we get to have a big goof off table with the whole bridal party!

We are going with a headtable. Same reason at Katy, FH hates being the center of attention, at least this way it will be a little more discreet when guests are looking at us!

We did a sweetheart table :-)

At first I was kinda annoyed cause we ended up having to buy more centers, but it was great cause me and DS got some alone time, got a chance to eat a little, and all of the female WP members brought dates. The guys all came stag and sat together.

Thanks for responsding Mrs. Joseph :-)...I remember that your FH was concerned about that. I have to look at the seating arrangement again...I also want pics with my WP, and don't want their random dates a part of the "WP pics"

He kept complaining he would be on display, but once he started drinking and partying he loved everything :0)
