Did anyone have something other than wedding cake?

Sarah, on September 26, 2012 at 8:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

We were thinking about having a small cake to cut, and then having something else to serve the guests. Has anyone done this? What did you use? We were thinking cupcakes, but we want to save as much money as possible.

My friend did cheesecake. She had 4 or 5 different flavours. She has a gluten allergy and can't eat cake, so they decided to get cheesecake so that she'd be able to eat it!

We went to our local bakery and got 5 10-inch cakes for $28-$30 each (one of which we used for cutting the cake), 3 pies for $15 each, and 20 dozen mini desserts (cannoli, eclairs, brownies, cheesecake bites, cream puffs, petit fours, etc.) for $9/dozen. Very affordable and a ton of variety! Our guests loved it.

I am doing cupcakes and maybe candy, but my venue includes a dessert setup with the cake (cream puffs, eclairs, petit fours, etc.)

I'm planning on doing that. Just getting a small 1 or 2 tier cake for cutting and then doing a Viennese table along with the other hors d'oeuvres

We are using cake pops (Sweet Lauren's Cakes). My partner hates left over cake. So we thought we'd have more variety and have all the cake pops eaten.

We are having a wedding cake but also a dessert table with cake pops, macaron trees, cookies from my favorite bakery, and a candy buffet.

We are having cupcakes displayed on a tower with a small 8 inch round cake on top for us to cut and feed each other. We are having the tower decorated with our wedding colors. Also we plan on putting out cookies and maybe some bite size coffee cakes next to the coffee/tea station.

We had homemade cheesecake that my MIL made. We had a normal sized cheesecake on a nice stand we bought off amazon for us to cut, and then the rest were individual size cheesecakes in cupcake liners. She did plain, strawberry, chocolate, and sugar free. They were so good, nobody missed the wedding cake!

We had an ice cream wedding cake and then large sheets of ice cream cake. This is because my DH loves ice cream, especially ice cream cake and dislikes most other kinds of pies & cakes.
