did you use a credit card for wedding related purchases?

ready2marry, on April 30, 2015 at 10:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 56

Hello! I read in an article to use credit card to pay for some purchases on your wedding day to earn points etc. Did you do that, and what did you pay for?

Only do it if you have the money to pay it off before you accrue interest charges on it.

I am doing that, but paying the balance off as soon as it posts. I've done most of my deposits that way.

Exactly what Celia said. I used my credit card for my dress and part of the deposit payment on the venue

We are definitely using ours to pay for the wedding. So far, we have paid for the ceremony, reception venue, caterer, baker, florist, DJ and band. All deposits were paid on the card. However, we only charge what we already have in cash. We also use it the day after our billing cycle, and we pay the balance within a few days.

Hopefully, we will earn enough points to pay off the honeymoon.

    ETA: to correct typos

My parents are luckily footing most of the bill, but they're using a credit card whenever possible to earn cash back. For things we are paying for, we plan to use our rewards Capital One card as well. As long as you're not carrying a balance, it's a great way to spend all the time! We earn free travel every few months and never pay a penny of interest. I also bank on my phone and make the cc payments while I'm still in the store parking lot. That way I can't forget. ;-)

I used mine for everything. I ended up with around 500 dollars in hyatt gift cards to use for my honeymoon.

I was planning on putting things on credit and paying it off instantly, but most of our vendors (the reception/catering which are the big ones included) do not accept AMEX which is our credit card with the points. Also for some reason our reception/caterer won't let us make the file payment via credit card, I even asked if we paid off the venue way ahead of time if we could (we would have gotten a visa or MC that collects points) and they said no.

So it's being paid by cash.

We're using our United credit card and paying it off as we go. We're racking up mad miles between that and our honeymoon for a trip to Europe next year!

We are using ours for everything too, hoping the travel points will cover the honeymoon! But also definitely paying the balance off in full every month - credit card interest is crazy!

I've been using my Alaska Air card so that I can earn miles but I make sure to pay it off every month so that I don't have any interest charges!

My parents have been using their credit cards to earn the rewards as well. Fh and I do the same for wedding related purchases too. Be sure you can pay it in full though!

We used ours for every major wedding expense, but paid it off every month. We did it for the rewards.

I don't know if this would work Sue, but my charge card offers checks too. I don't accept credit cards simply because the fee (especially AMEX) is so high. My fee is usually one of the smaller ones though, and while I occasionally get a request, it's pretty rare.

We have paid for as much as possible on our credit cards and we pay it off right away. I also use my credit card daily for regular expenses to earn points then pay it off at the end of the month. Beyond the points I like using my credit card for the added protection it offers.

I love love love chase freedom. 1% cash back on every purchase and 5% back in rotating categories like gas, Amazon, department stores, etc. It was my first credit card and I had a 3,000 limit, not bad for a 20 year old with not much credit history.

If you want more info feel free to leave your random wedding email and I can forward you an invite!

ETA 18 months of no APR and no annual fee... Pretty convenient for new credit card users

I only used my airlines card to get all our place tickets. Besides that, I have used cash.
